I only just read your big long report. It is kind of inspiring to understand how people have worked through a bad depression and have come out the other side. It's also cool to think about the number of Vorbers who have been able to assist in some way, and kind of makes me think about the impact of cycling and Vorb on me. Just this morning I was talking with Julie and sort of realised that most of my current circle of friends have been met through Vorb!

Thanks for a great read, yup, you have educated me! Keep on cycling, we love hearing about your rides! :)

Practicing visualisation techniques to lower your BMI Davo ?
Wont really work until you put that wheel of cheese down.

I carbo-loaded and ate a ton yesterday, ready for a big ride today. I didn't go.

I was a few years ago - bloody Richard Martin and those DELICIOUS oatmeal chocolate chip cookies...

Had a great ride with Simon today. After an early false start, somewhat reminiscent of Davo's overeating yesterday (Simon cancelled while my 5th bit of fruit toast was cooking...), we eventually suited up after lunch and drove out to Dry Creek. There was a running "event" on in Upper Hutt to which MTBers had been invited, and we had piked from, but we decided to follow the basic idea of the course anyway. We rode up Blue Mountains, and up Avro Rd (right hand just before Avian Rd), where we were buzzed by a kereru. Such a shame these aren't more common in Wellington. We cruised north up Whiteman's Valley, enjoying the slight descent, before heading into Tunnel Gully at Maymorn. We'd met some of the hardier MTBers (one of whom said he'd specifically gone on the ride to meet Simon :D ) and they'd said the climb up Mt Climie was pretty tough going. With my expectations set low, my virgin ascent of Climie was very pleasing. I haven't done much steep off road climbing lately, so was having to relearn the art, but managed to keep going and cleaned what was about a 700m climb from Maymorn. Very satisfying, and very cold at the top - unfortunately no time to admire the beautiful bush.

I managed to slightly sprain my left hand during the week, and so the descent was a little uncomfortable, but soon we were back at Maymorn. We backtracked up the valley, and cut down Wallaceville Hill, and across the Hutt Valley. The Hutt River was full, brown and flowing swiftyly when we crossed it onto River Road, before heading up Moonshine. The climb was about 250m, and was all over pretty quickly. We had a nice warmdown over Haywards before jumping into the car at Dry Creek.

After a hot meal, and a bath, I've almost warmed up... It would have been damn easy not to ride today, but as always, it was good to get out...

I was just browsing, and noticed this..

A vorber wrote:Dumb question (and I'm not trying to upset anyone this is a geninue question) - I thought this was a roadbiking thread ?

The same vorber on the next page wrote:Thanks Sifter, it's just I'm a really dumb (or is it singleminded) Roadie - I get depressed when I check out a good vorb thread and it turns out to be MTB stuff (same with the magazine shops here in Wellington - wall to wall MTB - Roadbiking mags = 2). The main problem I have (I'm embarassed to admit) is that I have no idea what the mounties are talking about.

The same vorber, one more page later, about a MTB ride, wrote:Thanks Sifter, just as the thought of my winter commute kicks in it is great to read about something that cheers me up, great ride :)

It gave me lulz! :D
