Had a bit of a shitty time on the tip track today. Ended up at the top at about 4 o'clock, after faffing around most of the day getting a rear wheel and tyre tubelessed. At least that was a success :) Rode to the top via the rollercoaster and carparts.

I dumped my bottle at the top after taking a big swig and cruised down. Turned the bike around at the bottom and got underway. Well before half way my mouth was dry and I was regretting not having my bottle with me. It also seemed a bit dumb to be carrying a banana and a one square meal which would have been better things to leave at the top. At the stockyards I was 11.07 and down on my 22 minute time of a month ago. The top half was very windy, and I struggled - against the wind, the heat, and myself. I hit the seal at 22.38 and was pretty disappointed with it. I'd intended to do a second, and was pretty close to flagging, but after grabbing a mizone from a dairy in Brooklyn, and scoffing a great big jelly crocodile (70c worth ?!) I went up again. My heart wasn't in it though. I had to dab a couple of times in the first half after riding off the side of the track, and never really gave it heaps. I lost exactly one minute on the first half, and exactly one minute on the second half to clock in at 24.38.

Went down to Waitangi Park immediately after and watched the wacky wacky unicyclists. The 3-way sprint at the very end of the 10km looked even crazier than the rest of the race! Mad props to those crazy bastards! :D

Cheers bro. Simon's lent me his GDR rear wheel, thereby eliminating a bunch of ghetto tubeless action and huge expense! Poppity pop at the servo is a beautiful sound!

As for the unis - I gather the ride was rescheduled from the other day...

LOL @ Ricky :)

With that northerly I'm not suprised it was tough going! Still, smashing out 22 minutes in crap conditions is a pretty decent indicator that your form is pretty fricken good though

Hey I just read your blog on the Turoa Mountain road climb sifter, thats mighty impressive. As you're probably aware I know the road intimately well from my Winter seasons spent living in National Park. I once competed in the 'Peak to Powderkeg', obviously using that road in a downhill fashion. But the bike ride started from the 12km mark, so the first 4-5 kms down from the top were spent running, and they were absolutely thigh-burningly nasty to run down. Not sure I would contemplate riding up that road at my tender age any more. Well done to you guys, and in case I forget later, all the best in the Kiwi Brevet, Im really excited to hear how it goes for you.

Riding with a Black Dog

More of a health post than a riding one, but there's at least one photo of a stunning Kapiti Island.

Vorb was cool last night - heaps of action. It freaked me out so much I had to scurry off to bed. CU in a week vorb. Hopefully with tales of Te Mata Peak, W2K, and the Old Motu Coach Rd. Maybe even a bit of Redwoods or Craters thrown in for good measure...

Good to see pm out there today giving it heaps. A few mins before this was taken...

Love your work Sifter. Not in a gay* way but more in a man loving another man in a platonic way.

Not that there is anything wrong with that
