Only change would be the start time - move it to 6am, and finish before it's dark.

I suspect I will, but maybe without the extra sections...

I think the longest day idea was a good one. And, the idea of enjoying some scenery appeals...! The nighttime section with no traffic was a treat though!

Guys - that was an awesome ride/adventure.  Starting in the day would def be nicer - but there's something strangely appealing about the craziness of riding through the night. Glad to hear you didn't hit the 3.00am blues - I'm guessing the company had a lot to do with that?

I'd love to have tagged along - but would have slowed you guys down way too much!! Maybe next time, though?? I can always carry on solo if I'm being too much of a boat anchor!! :D

Oh - and Happy Birthday Sifter :)

odd thing was my legs recovered remarkably well. I went out the followig two days with my kids, not exactly demanding, but no ill effects. I'd like to say the lingering tiredness caused me to be dropped by the scratch and break guys (together in the brk2 group) at the KCC race last night, but I think it was they were too fast).

What remained sore for a while was my neck and shoulders. I think that was the cold in the early hours that caused that.

Yeah - I did some walking on Sunday and Monday, and today my calves are still sore from coming down off Colonial Knob above Porirua. I rode the roadie round the bays this morning, and everything else is fine. I agree about the cold, and the shoulders...

The Round the Block ride was a big goal. Next ride I'm really looking forward to is the Forgotten Highway on in just over a fortnight's time! Will have to get the 'cross tyres back on the CRX :)

Dates are Saturdays:

12/9 MTBO (check, disastrous!))
19/9 120km (check)
26/9 150km (check)
3/10 (WVCC Featherston ride, riding over on Friday evening, riding somewhere nice on Saturday, 80km funride on Sunday, then back over the hill and train from Upper Hutt - check).
10/10 (B grade race Eastbourne - Wainui? - hailed  out)
17/10 80km (midnight century earlier in the week, probably Tuesday night after work, 160km finishing around 12) (replaced by Mt Climie ride, no midnight century)
24/10 350km (350.org's International Day of Action - check!!!!)
---
31/10 0km (still sleeping)
7/11 Martinborough fun ride?
14/11 200km+ (New Plymouth to Ohakune via the Forgotten Highway. Friday evening to Stratford, Saturday as far as we can cope with before calling the Waaambulance...)
21/11 Speedwork?
28/11 200km (Taupo with the family. 40km from house at Motuoapa to Taupo, first leg at race pace, 120km with Dad, Sis and Bro back to Taupo).
5/12 Makara Peak Rally
12/12 MTBO?
19/12 Mangaone Walkway?
26/12 ?
2/1 ?
9/1 ?
16/1 WVCC 2 Day Tour?
23/1 ?
30/1 Akatarawa Attack (8 hour MTBO)
6/2 Kiwi Brevet

Aiming to do at least a couple of hard rides per week. Currently at 6x up Mt Vic, aiming for 10 repeats at steady pace.
Will probably start doing a tip track or two a month from November. (first done in October @ 24:20 or so)
Will aim to do an overnight tramp in January (need the legs for Ak Attack)
Wouldn't mind doing the ride Monolith did a month or so back at some point (Wainui, Belmont etc)
5/6 Peaks time trial ride?
Big Coast?
etc etc...

I must give a shout out to my sister too (I'm sure she'd have been the orchestrator... or should that be orchestratrix?)...

Anyway, my family and I always try to catch up over a coffee in the weekend, and sometimes end up at Gotham in Chews Lane. They have a pretty fucking delicious slice called "Party in your mouth" - malt biscuit base, and all sorts of goodies on the top: nuts, sultanas, seeds, chocolate buttons and bound together with sweetened condensed milk... Delish!

She and my bro and his lovely lady had ordered me something which wasn't going to arrive on time, so she popped in there and bought me a whole tray of Party in your mouth! Like kilos of it!!!! Crazy, but so lovely! Anyone in the neighbourhood should pop in and try some before I undo all my recent weight loss! :D

LOL, it must be marking season...

Just been having a play with Garmin's Connect web app... Here's a screenshot from the ride the other day... Not sure I'd want to watch the "video" in real time...

I got sunburnt legs today! First time this season I didn't even consider popping the knee warmers on.

Simon and Jonty were heading out too early for me, so I headed out through the Hutt on my own, bumping into them just after the 2 hour mark, a wee way beyond Staglands. Nice to see a simling face popping out of a Bushlove jerkin by Karapoti - I assume it was Monolith?

Had a natter to Jonty back towards Upper Hutt and then he headed home, while Simon and I rode up Wallaceville into Whiteman's Valley. By this stage, we'd been called cunzors by a motorbiker in a pith helmet. It seemed the road was not wide enough for us to ride 2 abreast (Simon on the shoulder, and me on or near the white line) - he was on a motorbike FFS... :eh:

After descending Blue Mountains we decided to stick to the back roads, so instead of nice smooth seal with cars whooshing past at 100km/h, we had rough seal, plenty of intersections, and cars whooshing past at 60-80km/h...

Simon stopped in Petone to catch up on some chores there, and I carried on home... with sunburnt legs!

I saw you coming back up Karori Rd just before you get to Marsden Village. I was zooming down the other way (in a red and white top) and you gave me what looked suspiciously like a disapproving look
