The best thing is the lol comments from random people when you hit the trails on a road bike. I am totally going to get a set of knobblies and hit more trails cos it was a bit tricky in parts with 60 psi on touring tyres :)

Running the cross bike on the Rotorua trails got some looks, especially when I did the jumps :P

WTB Nano 2.1

Pretty tight in there but no actual rubbing - good ol' Surly. Just been for a bomb around Halswell with my daughter, they roll pretty well.

It's a look I've always liked. I might see how fat a tyre I can fit on my Masi.

YFY Monster Cross.

I had those tyres on a Raleigh 29er, infact thats what it came standard with. I never had any probs with them in any conditions, and I rode the bike a ton in 18 months, and they didnt look all that worn when I sold it either.

So stoked with it, both the looks and how it feels. I have a set of On One Midge Drops lying around, cant help but wonder what it would look like with those...

The biggest tyres I had in stock were these Continental Cyclocross tyres. They're 42mm, there's still plenty of room so I might get something bigger and see how it goes.
The bead is only just hanging on to the rim. I've still only got 28/35 tubes in there, I guess a bigger tube would seat the tyre better?

Conti do a 47c/1.8" tire that may be worth investigating ...

More would be better but after a further look there's less room than I thought. I think I'd struggle to even fit that 1.8.
There's plenty of room at the back and enough width on the fork but the top of the tyre is less than 5mm from the bottom of the fork.
Maybe I should get a hand made steel fork, or another bike...
