I believe the correct term is sodomites, and the lord will smite them all.

The title of the article sounds very definite, but the article itself is a lot more ambiguous, it points out that a lot of psychologists still believe that smacking has a valid role in teaching kids about right and wrong but (1) only within a limited age range (approx 2-6 years) and (2) the parents have to be able to separate their personal issues from their actions so it is a soberminded punishnment, not just a random act of violence.

The article also points out that kids who are taken to psychologists have the same elevated aggression rates as kids who are spanked.

They also claim that verbal abuse is less detrimental than physical violence, but other stuff I've read indicates the opposite, that words of hatred and contempt have a much longer-term effect on the child's self-image.

Whenever this stuff gets trotted out, Slacky is the first to say, "I was smacked and I turned out okay." - my presumption is that that's arguable. ;)
