Should Dogs Be Allowed At Woodhill During Peak Times ?

Postby PhilWalter on Sun 22/Jul/07 12:04pm

I'm seeing more and more.....dogs running rampant around Woodhill in the weekends ?

I know many regular riders who have their dogs well trained and they know to keep out of the way of the riders...that is fine.

But with all the punters that Woodhill gets during the weekends, the majority of the dogs (often Spoodles and Labradoodles :D ) there are many out of control dogs running around, often near jump takeoff and landing spots, and it won't belong before there are some serious accidents going to happen.

I'm not a dog hater, I love them, but untrained excited dogs and jumpers don't mix !!!

What do people think ?

Vote away.

I'm quite happy to kick both dog and owner if they get in the way. Dogs normally learn to get out of the way pretty quick, their owners though....

I take my Dog to the track here with me sometimes but never if its going to be busy. usually just on weekday rides or if I am going to do some track work during the week when there is nobody else there.
should definatly not be allowed someplace like Woodhill on a weekend
also, the tards that dont pick up their dogs shit piss me off.

start a poll, the likely outcome is no they shouldnt b allowed.
chances r the dog is faster than the bike and might go in front of wheel, both owner and dog will soon learn their place

they should have to have gone through a special training course,

and they should be something like only certain hours on weekends/pubic holidays/peaks times.

The prospect of hitting a dog is the only thing that keeps me awake around those tracks, so I say let them stay.

I've hit a dog a 40km/h on my bike, and it wasn't pretty. The f#%king dog was fine, it ran off yelping. After i eventually picked myself up off the ground, i limped off with what i later found to be a dislocated sholuder and mild concussion... the owner took off, while i was lying at the base of a tree dazed, bleeding & sore...
Don't get me wrong, i love dogs and have no problems with people riding with them, but when there is a chance it interfering with other riders... well I don't believe it's a good idea to have them around during peak times.

I've never had problem with dogs at woodhill. Had more problems with little kids getting in the way of jumps and stuctures.

No

I have had two close calls I have enough trouble dodging trees let alone a moving obsticles.

Dont get me wrong I love dogs but there is a time and a place Thease dogs are normaly excited and are as dangerous to them selves as to riders trying to avoid them.

In a park where you pay to ride I think it is unfair to have dogs running loose and lets face it we are there to ride right.

lets give them a spot in the forest where they can go and then thats fair to all.

We have to pay to ride there.
Do the dogs have to pay to play there too.

A dog levy of $5 should be added and all dogs should be registered at the front desk (like riders).

Any complaints from other riders about stray or 'stupid' dogs getting in the way can be tracked back to the dog/owner.

a complaint = $10 fine to the owner.

This will not impact the well trained dogs that stay close to their owner.

I have seen a dog follow its owner over jumps and with nice tight racing lines - very well trained.

Woodhill attracts punters who are often doing a 'family outing ride' and decide to bring their dogs ...."why not....we take Buster for walks on the beach with us" they probably think.

The Redwoods caters more for your seasoned MTB'er who is more aware of the downfalls of crashing into a dog while riding or jumping at high speed.

I think probably there are also larger numbers at Woddhill in a smaller area.
