Ive seen dogs out there more well behaved than people, and if a dog has something to say they'll say it to your face not moan and b**** behind your back, if you have an issue raise with the staff at bikeparks but do it politely.

I think (as many people have said) that dogs are fine if they're under control. It's the owners call as to whether or not the dog(s) can handle the volume of weekend riders. I'm just starting out and I took my dog up there to see how she would go on a weekday when I knew it would be quiet. She got out of everyone elses way just fine but I had to brake for her a few times. It's all about owners being smart and considerate. I wouldn't take mine on a weekend because she gets freaked out by lots of people... common sense IMHO.

As Creeping death said, has any one talked to Bikeparks about this?.... I have e mailed Haydn below:

Subject: Hey Haydn, Whats Bikeparks policy on dogs?... particularly at peak times?

Maybe I am imagining things, but I thought I would drop you a comment on dogs. Over the last 18-24 months or so I have I feel that there are more dogs at the Bikepark (neat), but I guess the percentage of excited and uncontrolled dogs has increased too (particularly at peak times). As I have been out a bit over the last 2-3 months with Bikejams (thanks for your help!!) and I have had the enjoyment of the ride detracted by noisey dogs bloody yapping excitedly all the way around the trail Im on (even if you stop to let them get ahead, the noise travels quite a way...) and 2 weekends ago I witnessed a dog running around ahead of its owner up at Big Mama and caused the rider to bail on the exit of a structure when the yapping dog ran across the riders path causing him to bail out... Im sure the rider clipped the dog while trying to avoid it, and when the owner appeared on the scene he just shrugged his shoulders and said it could have been worse!! I dont know if the rider reported it...it was just a pride injury incident rather than an injury accident, but not very satisfactory.

I have always thought that one of the neat things about MTBing is that people could take their dogs with them and give them a run outside while going for a ride... but I mention this as a possible safety issue. It is definitely not all dogs... most are well behaved, and I think a few of the uncontrolled minority could bugger it for those who do have well mannered dogs.

I wonder if you have a "dog control code", I cant see anything on the website, and when I mentioned it to a staff member I didnt get a answer.

I have noticed it more at peak times... not really an issue in off peak. I dont really want to be a kill joy for those who have theirs under control but need to say something.

and this is his reply:

Thanks for your concern. There is no code or rules. Dog owners need to take full responsibility for their dogs. No amount of signage or rules will change one little bit. It’s like people saying that a don’t drop your rubbish sign will stop people dropping rubbish or don’t take shortcuts will stop people taking shortcuts.

An unfortunate thing

Regards

Haydz

I feel it is a bit of a cop out, but I think if enough people complained to Bikeparks instead of bitching here, they would review it. I have riden with dog owners who would love to take their dogs out to Woodhill, but they know how difficult it is to keep their own well behaved dogs under control out here... and they get really pissed off with dogs running everywhere.

Stop moaning about it here, and drop the park owners a polite e mail to make them aware that there is a problem.

I don't really ride much there anymore since I started this topic, and if I do, its normally mid-week to avoid the crowds ( and dogs ;) ) - but it looks like the issue may be getting worse after reading your comments.

I would say that Woodhill staff probably do check this forum.......afterall, it was originally promoted as a partnership between Woodhill and VORB, and they post here from time to time.

Surely if they wanted to stop dogs, all it would take is a big sign at the entrance to the carpark...word would quickly get around.
