Rwc Song = Instant Fail?

Postby zephyrheaven on Tue 30/Mar/10 7:49pm

The Feelers Cover Jesus Jones "Right Here , Right Now"

Very touchy subject, some love - some loath

It's obvious rubbish, but I guess that's what they were aiming for.

I would have thought an original kiwi song written for the event would be more appropriate.

That is a sentiment I would also like to express

Robert and Jono from that rock station did a fairly amusing job of one today

Agree with above sentiments, an original NZ composition would be much, much better than a cover (respective respect to The Feelers and Jesus Jones, though). What a weak committee-style music selection decision. (I can see the strategy though, a known singalong anthem might please the six-nations punters and attract them and their pounds for some lager-fuelled singalong spending power. But where's the inspiration of 'World in Union' in SA 1995?)

World Cup anthem original Kiwi composition # 14, TVNZ styles
It's the world in union
enjoying 100% pure new zealand produce
Swing low, sweet chariot
coming for to go on the bungy jump again
Swing low, sweet chariot
almost as low as a hobbit's roof (Annie Crummer floating backing vocal: "aue, filmed in Wellywood, and other scenic locations, visit them soon, yeah")
(haka-style ending) kss, hi aue hi!

Good choice. Taking a song I already hate means that they're not gonna completely ruin a good song and then play it till I can't even stand to listen to the original any more.

I cringed at "Sailing Away" (America's Cup) Back in 1986, so :hmmm:

Hearing the "Right Here Right Now" song is great (takes me back to when I was 20something) Might have a different view when they keep on over playing it in the next year or so.

At least it isn't some hip-hop bull sh*t!

That is about the only thing you can say about it. Me, I think the whole WRC will be an epic fail

Yeah - something like "This is the moment" from the 1990* Comm Games  I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.
avantibill wrote:I cringed at "Sailing Away" (America's Cup) Back in 1986, so :hmmm:

You take that back. Sailing Away is the best song ever written. Ever.
Barry Crump's "One people, on the land" line was a thing of beauty. I still have the 45 of that somewhere, I will cherish it until the day I die.

All you haters should just stop with all the hating hatey hate type stuff. Right Here, Right Now is obviously an awesome song if Norman Cook came up with another awesome song with the same name...

I personally can't wait to see the feelers (yes that's right, they prefer not to capitalise their name) play it live (and drunk) at the RWC final

*Mmmmmmm, Sesqui. Another epic fail...
