Not running but a good honest hike to start the new year...

danose wrote:so how was everyone's totals for the years? I just updated my training log, for the 2nd year running I just failed to crack 1000km (963km last year, 985km 2014) - but my elev gain totals are up nicely (25500m last year - 40100m this year)

Just worked out that last year I did 1,053km, 27,253 vertical - and 91,885 calories!!

Compared with 937km, 20,811 vertical and 83,749 calories in 2013.

Do a lot on trails and the old Garmin struggles with reception through the trees. So it shortcuts me on the distance. At least that is my story and I'm sticking to it! :D

During break walked part of Lewis Tops track. Near Lewis Pass, starting across road from St James. Had to turn back due to declining weather & poor visibility so only completed 4.5hrs however in first 60mins gained just over 600m elevation & only travelled 2km. Don't have full trip figures on me. Will go back sometime when weather is clear as apparently views are great.

in some places we ended travelling on the really soft alpine grasses & daisies. Made it really comfortable underfoot. Like ankle deep snow going up & like 100mm thick shagpile carpet coming down.

bit more tramping than I would have liked, happy to come away with two solid ankles and no other damages to the chassis or suspension

Did the 22km long option of the Waitomo Trail Run yesterday. In hindsight I'd have quite liked to do the super-long 33km but still a fun day out. Being a new event there's a few issues to iron out (couple of big traffic jams at a couple of points) but a great event on a suitably brutal course.

the 33 was tough. not even in my top5 long runs for this year but drawing close to the TUM100 for difficulty.
