heel striking is a terrible habit, and NB minimus shoes are the solution :D

running offroad helps too - softer surfaces plus less repetitive stress

And this.

I was a sprinter that switched to middle distance. First thing my coach got me to do was shorten my stride.

So my left shoulder is rooted and I am inline for a cortisone injection to give me some comfort at least.

Anyhoo, the short stride thing. I am a fairly "armee" runner, with long strides. This past week or so, being that I have to minimise my arm movements, my stride is shorter, and pace faster. So I guess that's something.

Nice 5-6km up into and around, then down Mt Vic today.

Don't tense your arms though (it's a waste of energy says the late great Arthur Lydiard)

I try and be loose as a goose. Have to, cos even without this current injury my shoulders are the things that hurt the most running :-(

And that's the thing CTD, that's what's changed my cadence the most.

10-11km from work, up Transient to Highbury Fling, George Denton, Holloway and back to work.

Wasn't bad, wasn't fast, but was comfy.

Road tripped it up to Taupo this weekend for a the Mizuno Taupo half-marathon. Had been battling laryngitis since late last week and wasn't feeling particularly choice last night or this morning - wicked sore throat and coughing up all sorts of multi-coloured shit. Gave serious thought to throwing in the towel, which in hindsight might have been a good idea. Sitting in the car my heartrate was about 30bpm higher than it should have been (and I don't think that Daft Punk's Alive 2007 live album that I was blasting was totally responsible for that).

But no... I decided it was too far to drive to not run.

I fucking suffered.

First time I've ever had to walk in a road run. Finished though but think I was near death. Spent an hour rehydrating before I could face the drive home. Six hours later though I wouldn't even know that I'd been for a run today.

The positive though.. that's my third half marathon in 6 weeks. One more and then I think I would have earned my holiday next month. ;)

Good effort Tugboat! So many others would have pulled out for sure!

Sucks, but has it's own weird rewards eh?

Cliché waterfront run.

6km, 30min. Moderate pace for me. Damn I hate road running.
