Oh O! Post crime!

Nice 64k ride at 8pm. Just did a loop up Gebbies and the Bastard to Lyttelton via Summit Rd and home. Nearly came a cropper going down to the SOK. Quite dark at that stage and must have missed the 30kph sign! :o Went straight onto that newly laid gravel on that corner at over 50kph  Whoops! After a nice drift with front and back wheels losing traction managed not to fishtail or lose my front wheel. But very lucky to stay upright and still on the road.

Pretty good ride up gebb's (bays side) and the big B in a light Sou wester. 5:20 up Gebb's and straight onto a 14:50 up the bastard. 20:19 all up from the bottom. Legs seemed to seize up quite a bit sooner than usual on the ride home, so think that damned Little River to Aka's loop has wrecked my legs, 'cause they still haven't recovered :hmmm:

78.5 km's worth of glorious commuting today and 500m of what has become something I won't forget for a while. I was through Pukerua bay just after the accident this morning. Didn't see it happen, but did see the vehicle the Police are now looking for (have let them know). Truck looked like it was broken down when I went passed. Hard to think I was within meters of a dying person and did not know it. May the driver RIP. :(

On the good side, I have surpassed my goal of 1,000km's for the month. I did this once before (last March) but that time a lot of it was done on the trainer and over 31 days. This time it was all outside (except for riding into the foyer at work) and has been done in 26 days. My legs are telling me it is time for a rest, and so I am taking the weekend off satisfied that I have hit the target. Taking the lovely Julie up to Taranaki tomorrow to see Cliff Richard. :)

Not today but Wednesday...

"5 Corners Of The Bay" 277km classic ride around Golden Bay.

Left Upper Takaka at 4am for Cobb power station then to top of Takaka Hill, out to Wainui Bay then over to Puponga then out to end of road at Bainham before turning for home.

Some discomfort around the 180km mark due to not taking weight off saddle frequently enough but changed style and problem was resolved. With 200km down at Bainham and a quick stop for coffee and cake later I was head down for the home stretch. Arrived home with total time of 11 hours 52 minutes and ridden time of 10 hours 20 minutes. Amazing how a stop every now and again can add up to so much lost time...

Fantastic scenic ride, might organise a social race or something over the course.

znomit wrote:Yeah half a ride with cooper and the PP bunch tonight then out on my own for a bit. Cooper looked pretty buggered, understandably. Didn't get quite as far as I intended but a nice loop up to huwinui and back through bunnythorpe. 86 in 3, picked up the pace a bit once I left the bunch. Nice to get out for a long medium distance ride, been a while.

why thank you, didn't know any had noticed....was it the new lippy? But yea you were right, ran out of food and hydration fluid earlier in the ride and had to tough it out on weary legs and cramp that last 15k home. ...next time a couple more 'one square meals' in the pocket and more horleys to get me round!

A cruisy ride around the lake.
Amazing, that I now call a ride around the lake cruisy. 6 Months ago it would have been an epic :D

Is there any way we can show gps routes directly on the forum?

:) Out to the Avanti group ride this morning. We had 3 guys racing each other for the first part of it. I had to spin out my “70 gear like a mad thing to keep up or close the breaks.

:( Unfortunately we had two young guys crash off. A guy who was leading the bunch went back into the bunch causing a couple to brake and a front wheel to touch a rear wheel.
One young one was fine – hardly a scratch, the other teen had some grazes and strangely couldn’t bend his left leg or put weight on it. Ligament problem in the knee?

 A helpful car driver stopped and took him back to the start and they were allowed to put his bike behind a person’s garage.

The slower group caught us so we were about 40 riders moving along the road.
One guy bet me up the steepest part of Annandale and another guy bet me up Amreins – possibly because I’d only had half a muesli bar since getting up?
All up a good blast in no wind in the cool of the morning.

Another loop around the lake.
After yesterdays dismal performance the Outlaw pulled out all stops and we both did PB's even with Steve getting a flat tyre.
I am very pleased.

Went out yesterday to try a new course, from Petone, up Wallaceville to Te Marua back up Wallaceville then to Blue Mtns and home. Started off poorly when I find my front tyre flat before I even leave home. Change the tyre and set off. All good till about Stokes Valley when the front goes squishy again. Get off to cheange it...no tyre levers!!!, So find the glass shard, dig it out and pump up the tyre and see how far I get. After two more stops and 'refills' I make it to BikeHutt, who very kindly lend me a tyre lever and floor pump to make the change. All sorted and just ready to start, and I get a text to say my wee man was not feeling well and "when will you be home?", So a blat down SH2 it was home. Oh and half way home the from deraileur decided not to drop into the small ring...Not what I had planned but great weather..

An unexpectedly LONG ride for me today.
I went out with the shop group thinking they would do the usual 75kms (86 for me) but they were doing a longer course.
Up Triangle, through Massey, Hobsonville, Albany (up the hill) out to Dairy Flat (I was second in line to a guy who kept powering along at 35kph or so (he seemed to do that for 1/3 of the ride with me wheelsucking him), up/down and out to Kaukapakapa turn off (the rock) and hang a left into Peak road where we waited for others.
Up Peak, to Taylors, down to Waimauku and along Hw 16 to Kumeu (it reaffirmed why I never ride Hw16! :hmmm: ). Turned right and out to Taupaki, Waitakere, over Tunnel Hill and down to Swanson where my legs lost their speed  (I’d been feeling good until then) and the 5 other faster guys rode away from me.
Back to the shop for a water stop and then I rode into Jervois Road to meet up with my wife and boys.
I had to ride to Avondale as the Police had closed the cycleway because of the apparent Tsunami warning.
116kms :)
