Hopefully the revised versions on the 2007 models can be retro-fitted to the older wheels...

Mine's a 2004 so I've probably got some good mileage from it! It's still working fine, but just making strange noises. I'm tempted to persist with it until it just stops working! I just know that's gonna lead to aggro on the trail though so I'd better take it in.

They do need regular maintenance - which is fairly straight forward :)
In a nutshell, you add some mineral oil from time to time.
You'll generally only hear noise when you're low on oil... and the noise you'll hear a the freehub pawls grinding on the inside of the hub

On windy days like today I stay clear of flat rides and usually ride on the hills as it usually means slow hard climbs. I hate long rides into headwinds. Having said that - today I did nothing apart from clean the car/ bike/ garage and walked up to the cave at the head of Barnett Park in Redcliffs!

Yeah - my road ride was flattened by two things.
1: Winds.
2: Winds that brought lots of pollen, which in turn floored me with hayfever.

Yep got to agree with you there, it wouldn't have been my pick of ride but my coach organised it a week ago - I was hoping it would rain so I wouldn't have to go :satan: It would be a lot nicer ride on a nice day....

Did the Ashburton Crit in C grade. Fellow Vorber Lauren Webb was in with me as well. Fely okay but piked on a few corners and at the death decided not to risk crashing. Good thing as Gary Sword went down in the final lap.

Too many people cutting corners and pedalling through them. Also not enough people keeping the pace high so the race easily fell into James Archbold's hands in the sprint.

Great course though and excellent weather!

that sounds about right for the noises Al's hub was making - being 04 it's the original freehub, not the lighter but more prone to dying fts-l - so download the 04 tech manual (big) off www.tech-mavic.com (login mavic-com / dealer) it's got the step-by step on removing/cleaning/reassembling the freehub

The key is to stop riding it as soon as it begins making noise.
Otherwise things could get VERY expensive!!

Hmmm & I was going to ride it on Wednesday night in the first of the hillclimb series. Oh well, it's only Rapaki anyways :( I'll drop the bike off tomorrow to Bike HQ.

just drop the back wheel in to bikehq - I'm sure I can find you a spare rear wheel for the hill climb (evil thoughts of lending al a really heavy back wheel to cripple him)
