there's lots of urban legends surrounding Paul but I could believe it (presuming we're talking pre-crash).

that long climb up evans is my nemesis - just steep enough to nail me, not steep enough to penalise bigger more powerful riders.

what we need is times for reverse long bays - since up evans and up to the kiwi from governors favours the light hill climbers so much more

I did try and get Hayden Roulston, Olly Pearce and Scott McDonnell to post times to cycle2max.com. They are the fastest climbers in town.

Bottom of Hackthorn/Dyers to bottom of Evans?

yep - we used to stop the clock just after the big fast left hand sweeper at the bottom of evans (where it becomes wakefield ave).

have gone as low as 52 min for it, but these days it's more like 56 min - keep running out of determination/grunt up evans pass

Coolies.
Im not sure what time it was when we got to Wakefield Ave, but at a guess about 6;20 - 6;30, which would be about 1hr 30ish, maybe a bit less.
And thats with 3 stops and a head wind, so I reckon on a good day with no stops I could do it in about 1hr 15m. :)

I won't post my time up the hill cos it's embarrassingly slow. Suffice to say, I have a LOT of room for improvement
It's a gorgeous day out there today. Just perfect for riding! Hope tomorrow's as good.

Just to dishearten those of us who struggle up the hills even more, I picked up a copy of Ride yesterday which contains an article on Floyd Landis' comeback ride on Stage 17 of last year's TDF. Cadel Evans (no slouch at going up hills) is quoted loosely as saying "Phonak attacked on the Col De Saises and one by one their riders dropped off till only Floyd was left. I was right on the limit, climbing a 10% gradient at 38km/h with Floyd still accelerating".

I had a nice ride yesterday! From Northland in Wellington up the Hutt Road, past Karapoti Park, and over the Akas to Waikanae. Back South via Paekak Hill, the Haywards, and the Hutt Road again. 5 hours all up! Saw some beautiful scenery too, and got passed by the Brooke-Whites with 5 bikes on the car :D

Gawd knows how far it is! I would guess 130km+ Beautiful countryside though :) Would be considerably shorter as a loop North of the Haywards... Maybe next time ;)
