Going to have a busy weekend this weekend.

Tomorrow we have our annual Gisborne - Morere Hot Springs race
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/GC ... rings-Race
which is always a toughie and whilst its only 54km, there are some biggish hills in between. Since my "support" crew headed off on holiday, I'll be riding back as well.

Then on Sunday, Im having to head around to the Cape. Wife and Kids decided they wanted to get away on holiday early, so for me to ride the race tomorrow, Ive got to ride to the Bach on Sunday! Thankfully the wind is turning South so will have a bit of a tail wind for the first part:

Yup you guys that live in Wellington certaily have it tough. Was down there over XMas and it was certainly harder training than up here. Whilst the wind wasnt too bad, ohh the number of hills ... a climbers dream! :paranoid:

Welly's alright, even on a windy day: just head out upwind then turn around and get blown home. That's what I did yesterday afternoon, my place in Lower Hutt up to the start of Akatarawa road into the wind then flew home downhill and downwind. 57 km by the time I picked up some respectable clothes and cruised round to the riverbank to find the family and fly kites with the kids.

Hmmm - no JB! Might actually be biking!!

Did Taitapu-Motukarara - Kaituna Valley turn-off - Gebbies - Bastard - SOK - Home ride today. Totally grovelled up the Bastard in no wind, and grovelled all the way home afterwards. Not feeling overly flash today after yesterday's big effort.

There was a crazy number of cars on the Akaroa road today.

oohhh - the gauntlet has been thrown down!!!

I might have to break out the lighter bike and race tyres for my next attempt, as opposed taking the olde schoole diamondback :satan:

SB's for me too with Godley Head and Summit thrown in for extra pain to lose all that Christmas/ New Year flab! The bad weather has been the main thing that's kept me off the bike though.

I caught up with the 'old man' too (Danose!!)

I tried to go up the hill since I've set myself a goal of improving my climbing but for some reason I just couldn't get my breathing to settle into anything other than gasping and choking :(
After the third time stopping to contemplate vomiting and/or cardiac arrest on a section of Hackthorne that I usually find ok, I went for a flat ride instead and will try an outing tomorrow with inhaler and antihistamines on board

:) I did a flat ride yesterday out around Spencerville and back home, was a reasonable amount of head wind on the way home but at least the sun was shining!

hey at least I didn't quite cark out at the kiwi - serves me right for stopping suddenly with no cool down, instant loss of blood pressure

you got temp sensitive exercise induced asthma? last night the air was still quite cold (despite the sun) - I had to watch my lungs (which meant only 90% effort and hence a piss-poor 17m30 time - that old fart bushman nearly caught me at the top  )

pre-dosing with ventolin about 15mins before heading out is the best fix

heh yeah that's the problem I've got. Bloody annoying really - if it's too hot or too cold I'm screwed. It's playing up something chronic at the moment so I'm hypothesising that the pollen count atm is aggravating things - hence the trial with antihistamines today

Today is absolutely mint for riding in Wellington, sunny and warm with just a light breeze. I'm at work, but I went out for a quick lunchtime blat from Seaview along the bays past Eastbourne to the end of the road and back.

You can't beat Wellington on a good day: sadly, ones like this didn't turn up much when I was still on holiday!
