Got all dressed, jumped on the bike and turned onto Mt Albert Road. Then a gust of wind came and blew me right over to the grass verge (was going slow so no damage what so ever). Picked myself up and went home - screw that :o Metservice says gusting 50km/hr...must've been one of those!

50m total haha!

It must’ve been a lot windier in Mt Albert that here in West / NorthWest.
Sure it was winy out riding but as I spent as much time as I could wheelsucking it wasn’t so bad

Yeah it was really mental windy at around 8am. I should have gone out a little later as it didn't feel that bad at all, but plans were made and that was that!

Nice loop around some Palmy farmland. Lots of snow up on the Tararuas. So I pretended that all the cows had bells on and that all the fords were citroens and that I was riding through an alpine plateau in Europe someplace. Didn't really work. But it was still a swell day out.

Total times nearly killed by motorists: 1. Which is about average.

Long bays - crevasses in Hallswell, bridge heave at Ladbrooks, wreckage in Lyttelton, Avonside drive closed, and pretty rough in the CBD.

Finally had the time and the inclination to go for a winder around the block. 100.89km, in a shade under 4 hours. Garman says 1112m vertical, 2618 calories. Avg speed was only 25.7kph, however that is probably understandable given headwind heading south, and north. (wind on the coast was Southerly, and in the Hutt Valley was Northerly.)

First 45 minutes were about 5 degrees, then for the next 45 was 1 degree. I thought it was freaking cold out. Second bridge on the aka's was ice from end to end.

Saw several groups of riders heading out to Erehwon which was cool.

Was great to get out with Craig and Grant and talk about pretty much everything. Lots of fun, legs were shattered at the end, had a quick shower then off out for a family lunch back in lower hutt and overtook the other two heading home on the way!! Lunch was at Buzz cafe. Great food, Excellent service, good value. Well worth the visit. Glad to be home now.

Highlight of the ride (aside from meeting with others and actually doing it) was not being beaten by the mind on Haywards hill, and seeing Taranaki from the top of Paekak.

Yeah it was a mint day today, apart from the wind, which sucked.

I had two near misses, rather large trailer down K-B rd and some idiot car gave me 20cm down railway rd.
Oh and the guy on the TT bike who scared the bejesus out of me, sneaking up and passing me like I was standing still.

.....rode to the Port of Napier and back.....340km-ish, 11 hours riding.....just made it back before the wind came up on the Takapua plains. Picked up a bunch out of Hastings (thanks to the Ramblers), most of whom rode as far as Waipuk with me and then 4 joined me to the Norsewood gap. Great Coffee at the Misty Creek cafe in Waipawa and tucked into a Butter Chicken pie at the BP in Danneverk :) Now I just need to do it again on 27th Nov around the puddle. :)

A guy did similar to me, but he slowed up almost right away and I was able to easily close the gap down and was almost on his tail again when he turned off down a side road. I suspect he was just posing :D

I rode right at the wind for an hour today, which kind of sucked, but then I rode home again at about 46kph... for about 15kms. That part was fun :)

Ventured out with two cycling buddies to do Long Bays in Chch today. Incredible to see the randomness of devastation around the place. Went thru Halswell and was amazed to see the sand volcanoes (look up liquefication) in the paddocks. Some areas totally unscathed - others totalled. Lyttleton smashed by earthquake. Empire Hotel about to come down at anytime. Sumner looks ok but closer to town things are very different. Parts of CBD totalled. This has been huge. Never in my life do I want to experience anything like a 7.1 earthquake. For all the trainspotters out there, the Richter scale is logrithmic so 7.1 is 10 times more powerful than the one that leveled Haiti. Think about it.

Sunday . . . . Waignake Valley and return including the climb up to the tower . . . . . 3 buddies, 6.30 am start, 3 hours . . . priceless.

Weather was crystal clear, cold and just a slight breeze.

Back to the commuting, and a couple of rest days has down wonders...or was it the northerly tailwind? Still not as quick up Paekak Hill as i used to think I was, but made up for it over the Haywards, and then down SH2. Arrived at Wellie station around the 2:06 mark, averaged over 32.5 kph. Then dodged all the stroller along the waterfront for a while.
