Man thats sad! RIP man. :( Sounded like a great guy. Thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Another road safety campaigner gets killed! Crap! I bet like most of us who ride a bit, he had the regular near misses

A 62yr old gets caught! Heard a station wagon was seen speeding away round the general area with damage to the front and a smashed windscreen.

What a selfish arsehole! After he hits the guy, instead of trying to help, and get help, leaves the poor guy who for all he knew was still alive, bleeding on the road!

In court today apparently. Hope he gets the book thrown at him!

I would almost guarantee some prison time for this.

Road Safety

Postby valwyn on Thu 21/Aug/08 11:41am

I have done a lot of cycle touring in my time and this is what i say to non cyclists who don't give enough consideration to riders on the road.
Can you imagine sitting in a chair, with your back to the traffic, half a metre out from the side of the road. Now imagine what you would feel like if someone came past you at 100kmh while it crossed with another vehicle traveling at 100kmh in the other direction. Do you still think its OK be inconsiderate to cyclists?

Like the kid texting who got community service for a hit and run on a veteran cyclist in Christchurch.

When I was 7 I got hit by an old geezer who blew through a ped crossing, that had wardens with lilipops and all. He didn't stop. When the off duty cop following stopped him he claimed he got such a fright he was taking himself to hospital, worried about his ticker the poor thing while I was lying in the gutter.

I hope this guy gets the book thrown at him.

Out of respect for the people that live across the road from where it happened and for the fact it is a terrible place with dark shade and blinding sunlight I have placed a ghost bike near the intersection of Kara road

Hey tripler, awesome sentiment. I lived in Maungatapere about ten years ago, and rode around that area, including Kara Rd, a lot. Sad stuff.
