I've just re-read the first page of this thread.
A simple question, many valid and helpful responses. And then the OP starts ripping into one of the responses because it doesn't line up with his thinking.

Perhaps my wording of "different protection" could've been worded better - coverage is probably the better term. Coverage had already been mentioned by others, so I thought it was a concept the OP would understand.

So out of the many helpful vorbers who offered advice, and the OP who was the first to throw a punch - who wrecks the forums?

The only apology I would make is for implying the OP has previously sustained a brain injury. We were beyond page one at that point though, and the first punch had been thrown. So fuck it.

Well road helmets get more air through them but not sure if they have better smell protection or not.

After today's ride my mtb helmet is pretty smelly.
