Ben Murphy was leading Pro Elite til rolled tyre.

Whats with the en-masse DNFíng of the Levin posse in Senior Men? Was it a protest action at too much uphill, not enough gnarly DH? ;)

Thinking about it, maybe some of those guys with the big rigs cut their losses one lap short ? Bugger hauling one of them 1x firebreak, 3x to spoonhill

SM look like they're an endangered species :D Good to see you briefly yesterday :)
70% DNF is a rather startling statistic!

I think Owen was leading SM into the last Jungle/Labyrinth/Spoon lap until he cut up his back tyre.

Now that would've been a hoot down 491/Spoon!

shows the lack of mtb racers in the region.. as Senior men should be full of guys having a go. quite a disconnect from the "rec" MTBer and racing scene

biggest positive for me yesterday was the work they have done on beeline. for out of towners that ride the tracks once a year on race day it has allways been a friggin nightmare and the least enjoyable part of the day by a mile but after the descent yesterday.........man o man that was primo!!! big ups to the track builders that made it entirely ridable and a hell of a lot of fun..THANKYOU!!!!!!! and the new single track through the jungle, Towhai or something it was called...that was sweeeeeeeet!! :)

Size of the Enduro category is evidence of that. Probably a combination of the perception of the B-grade categories as fiercely competitive/no chance of victory, and some not rating their skills on the more difficult tracks. I know some might have moved up from Enduro but Spoonhill put them off (and I saw people heading down there walking sections of it). Always going to be hard to get a balance between having a sufficiently testing technical track (and I've got to agree, a bloody fun one yesterday), and something which people rate themselves on enough to move on up.

I wonder whether having two different categories (ie one a B grade, another a C) but on the same course (different lap amounts?) would work so that people can compare themselves across grades. No doubt gives rise to other issues though (congestion?).

Navigational error. Thought they only had to do 2 laps of spoonhill.
I was just wrecked.

I know my placing should have been higher, left a few masters 2 behind me, to find they had beaten me back to the finish line. Got a bit lonely on my third lap of Spoon. Not that I was ever in the running for a podium. :p
To ride 491 3 times was good enough for me. Fantastic course well done PNP / WTP etc. :D
