Riding Along Coast Road

Postby faceless on Tue 11/Aug/09 4:28pm

Does anyone know whether it is legit to be riding along Coast Road from Muriwai at the moment during the week? The route was off limits for quite a few months due to logging trucks accessing the road up to 22 times a day.

Gd'day - I spoke to Hancock's the other day as have been pulled up along Coast Road and Mission a few times whilst doing some hard out pedals during the day and the night. Each forestry guy you meet has a different take on it so I called the boss a chick called Andrea at Hancocks. She advised the following :
Coast Rd access only for biking and pedestrians from the Muriwai end as far as the Telephone Track. Basically Coast rd has 3 roads of to the right prior (Pulpit, South Block & then Restall) before reaching the telephone track. You can only ride Coast Rd at this stage and nothing else due to foresting and other forest users on quad bikes etc . . . Bit of a bugger as riding the length of Coast Rd to Rimmers was always a good work out with a few side trips up and down the other roads.
They have advised that if it does open for foresting along there again they will put up signs - it's really all a bit ambiguous at the moment and not clearly marked where you can and can not go - often see riders proceeding past the Telephone track . . . . oh yea, not riding along the road at night time either - they have already issued a couple of tresspass notices . . .

Have Fun !
