Where is the official start and finish point. Also, has anyone got the total elevation? Will give it a crack once I know the start and finish (and since my new bike is nearly 4kg's lighter than my old one  )

From the turnoff at Welcome Bay Road, you go about 300m, to the sweeping R/Hander, there is a white fence there and a bunch of Grapefruit trees. There was a white line painted across the road, but Im not sure how visible it is any more, anyway thats the start point. And the finish is the entrance to Summerhill MTB park. No idea on elevation.

First time up there for me today, so a bit of a sighting run really. Was at the end of a 2 hour ride, so had it in my head that I was in for 13-14 minutes of suffering. So seeing 10:23 as I rolled past the Summer Hill entrance was a plesant surprise :butbut:
I'll publicly announce my goal as 9:30 now, and ensue the mocking until I manage it

Oh, and Joel - you're a freak :alien:

The ride - or the formatting? :eh:
Nah, after driving up there on Sunday I knew I needed to give it a crack. And with distance from the door to Summer Hill now measured as only 8 km, I think the mtb will get fairly used to climbing Reid Road over the coming months :D

Yeah the ride. Yeah it is handy from Papamoa. Spoke briefly to a guy named Phil at Avanti Plus by the bayfair roundabout earlier today, he is starting a ride from the shop, along the Papamoa green belt and up to Summerhill, a blat around there for an hour, then back again, every Tuesday at 5.30pm. You could maybe hook onto the ride in Papamoa perhaps, if you were interested, he's a nice guy.

Went for a pootle up at Summer Hill yesterday - thought I'd lay down some hurt on the way up. Turns out I didn't have much hurt to lay down
I actually had to sit down for a minute in the car park before rolling into Summer Hill, fairly sure those stars I was seeing weren't there before I started the climb
Anyway - 12:13 on the MTB. Don't know if that's worth adding to the table or not, and not sure if I'll be trying to beat it in future either :D ...

Yeah its definitely not so much fun on a squishy mtb, I've only ever tried that once. The rigid 29er was good, once actually went up reid road, rode around both sides of Summerhill, rode down reid rd, then back up again, then went home. Weird.

The sandbagger in me would've posted something about sub 25 psi tyre pressures blah blah blah, but hey - when on the MTB the road is just a means of getting to the fun stuff ;)

I could see consecutive attempts happening on the roadie though :alien:

Eek, just got home from a night effort up that bastard of a hill on the cross bike. Just to see how unfit I am, as someone has conned me into entering a race next weekend. Too embarrassing to post. 2nd closest I have ever come to abandoning.

Oh wow - for some reason I thought I'd done 9:20 up there last time, so thought my 9:45 today was neither here nor there...
Interestingly I just rode it at a fairly constant pace, as opposed to my sprint/die/sprint/die approach last time. Happy to knock 48 seconds off after not being on the bike for three weeks!

Is it a rolling or standing start from the citrus trees? Aiming to do it tomorrow if the weather holds.
