Just to add one thing to the epic post (probably seems even longer cos I'm on zzz and IE6 = 1/3 width - actually have you tried using the zzz option to log on DR? I couldn't without it) and that's that races are often at resort type places which might be why the costs seemed high to me. That and the fact that I was comparing to US not NZ.

And true about the fruit and veg - that was awesome!

I seem to have no problems at the apartment - but might give the zzz option a go at work ... but there are some weird lock outs on the work interweb ... :angry:

Without getting into another epic - your comment about resorts is right too and reminds me of another local's tip ...

Always look for towns around the race location rather than staying in the race town. For example, if you go to Bromont, check out Sutton - it's 20km away and isn't anywhere near as pricey as Bromont itself - both for accomodation and food. Generally in Canada the roads are good and speeds are higher than NZ so a short trip is easily done - unless you have a 7:00am race start! :)
