Spain, the USA and the UK have all suffered multiple terrorist attacks and bombings over the last few years (or decades). Would you be too scared to go there for a holiday? How about Fiji? It's way more dodgy than India and plenty of people are having a good time there right now.

Some of you kids need to get out more, the world isn't as scary as the idiot box says it is. ;)

Our hotel in Delhi got blown up in 2005. Fortunately we hadn't checked in yet. (it was an early AM bomb and our overnight Bus from Srinigar hadn't arrived yet, we missed it by about an hour), there are frequent attacks in India that do not make international news as they are (comparatively) minor and usually relate to internal politics. That said having travelled there pretty extensively (including all around Jammu and Kashmir) I'd have to say that its not a country i've ever really felt unsafe in, Not like lots of Africa which is a bit sketchy. Its a pretty heavily militarised place though, esp in the border States.

Re the original question I would say we should go, mainly on the grounds that bowing to this type of threat makes it more likely that such threats will become more common, and aimed at wider targets. The fear of terrorist activity is far more effective a weapon than the activities themselves and by bowing to it it greatly enhances the effectiveness of these groups beyond there actual capacity.

Not much worse than London in the 80's and early 90's then.

I'd think the biggest issue will be Indian security paranoia resulting in a crackdown on their own people.

and MIDDLE EAST?????????????? :p

The media world is full of people telling others what they should not do.

So, on a personal level let each person decide. And if some other, uninvolved person says " ooh noo do not do that" well, leave them to enjoy the company of the reactive masses.
Complicating this of course is the Team thing, representing a Country, the Dollars involved. And all the colateral gossip, which matters most of all

Well as they are part of the commonwealth I guess it was their turn.

Imagine the out cry if India was skipped because of suspected terrorism! The thought of other countries innocent people being slaughtered just wouldnt have bothered the ones that wouldve been whining I bet
