Poulter River Ride

We went up the Poulter because I saw Clarkster's thread/piccys, and it turned out better than I thought it would be. Would be a good winter ride, when the rivers are lowest. On our ride out we opted not to do the last big climb over a terrace and went down a gorge. At one river crossing I got my bike across just, then had trouble crossing back without the bikes weight on my shoulders. Then carrying my wifes bike over my head and the water over waist deep, I had to haul her because she got swept off her feet. Anyway it was an interesting and quicker return route. Some hunters in an old Landcruiser were stuck trying to get back up a huge washout to the main 4WD track, and in the end were forced to go down the gorge too. They had the water above the window sills and almost stalled.

Ah... jb, there could possibly be some very nice techy track up there, especially in the section from Casey to the old Trust-Poulter hut, couldn't really say.
Lake Minchin is a lovely green jewel. We were riding for over ten hours the first day.

I wanna do this and sometime in May perhaps --> check out Clarky's pictures above....

:0 :paranoid: ;)

Ride Details
It's a 1 hour 50 drive from Chch to meet at the Mt White Bridge turnoff just past Cass. Then about a 30 minute drive to the start.

So meet at Chain Reaction at 7am. (Otherwise it will be too late)
It will be worth getting up early

Car-pooling will be available for an appropriate gift to the oil gods, I can take two if you have a double bike rack.

Someone bring a portable bbq (smaller than JB's) and we can burn some meat's afters

skill level required similar to Lake Sumner, so EVERYBODY can do it.... BUT it is the the South Island High Country, so bring adequate food and clothing for any weather condition
