I'd have to figure out where to end it though as I can't remember any landmarks except the tennis court on the other side of the road, however before you get there there is a bit of a descent followed by more climbing.

Anyway, its about 3-4k long, some nice steep pinches.

Yeah, another vote to add Ponga road. I've only done this a couple times because I always get lost getting there but it's certainly a decent climb.

Wright Rd is a good one, you normally see people going down that hill, not as big as Mountain Rd though...

It currently looks like I'll be setting an East and West board. If we can come up with a few more for South and North, I'll start one up for those areas too.

Simply because not everybody rides every area. For me personally, I'd be West and North. I'd have to ride 100km just to get to the Hunas!

I'd consider doing a North/West and a East/South one as most of the ones to the north are pretty accessable from the west and visa versa.

I'm lucky, I live central so I'll be able to have a crack at a fair amount of both lists.

I have considered that too.

But I'd thought there may some reason for the 8 climbs down south to do with coding. And it turns out there is. If the code has more than 8 Climbs, VORB's code looks like it starts doing funky wrap around things with the spreadsheet on a normal resolution screen.

I just need to work out the climbs (and give them short hand descriptions) and send them to MFW down country who'll then get it started for me. After that, it should be plain sailing.

I might go for a drive this weekend to map them out using GPS.

Good idea.

How many candidates do we have now for each list?

I'm sure we can rustle up 8 for each. Also, perhaps seeing as most people will have access to Mt Eden (being central) perhaps it should be on both lists, meaning we need to find another 14 climbs across the region.

I just thought of another couple of possibles out West.

Bottom of the Dam Hill on Huia Rd to the TV Tower on Scenic via Woodland Park Ave. It does have a couple of smallish descents in it, but its mostly 15km up hill, so not steep but nice and long.

West Coast Rd (recommendation to avoid when the sun is out to avoid bogans)

Maybe South Titirangi Rd.

Yeah Mt Eden is going to be a universal donor.

I'm sitting on about 7 for West, and 5 for East.

Once it's set up, it can be changed around so if a climb sucks badly due to traffic or being a constant 20% (check out this for an example http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/new-zeala ... 6666487195 )

So it's no biggie if a decent climb pops up later.

Suitable Climbs for the leader board could include:

East Auckland(Hunua's)
Monument Rd, Creighton's Rd, Ardmore Quarry Rd or Otau Mountain Rd

South Auckland(Bombay's)
Peach Hill Rd, Pinnacle Hill Rd (Starting from SH2 side is possibly harder than Mountain Rd), Ararimu Rd (Starting from Ramarama or Paparimu Rd ), Ponga Rd ( Papakura/ Drury side)

West Auckland(Waitakere's)
Mountain Rd, West Coast Rd, Piha Rd (starting from Piha), Lone Kauri Rd or Scenic Drive North (can be climbed starting from Swanson or the bottom of Te Henga Rd),

Yep, there’s lots of good options….it’ll just take a few of us to start riding them / recording times to kick things off (read apathy there  )
