Shimano 11-46 cassettes are now available. The XT derailleurs aren't perfectly suited for the wider range, there's not as much chain wrap on the bottom end of the cassette as I'd like due to having to adjust the B-tension to clear the big granny. It'd be better if the chain was slightly shorter as it'd swing the offset top pulley down a bit further and require less b-tension fudging but we just got a little unlucky as it was too short with another two links out.

Despite what it looks like, it shifts on and off it real nice. I think the shift is 37-46.

yeah the step is mahoosive, i drank the 11-46 kool aid but i think i might dial it back to the 42 (i bought both) and face facts: i am not built for going uphill

edit:
actually it does the single control thing that the XTR does... That's kinda functional I guess. Looks awful on that bike though.

Whatever you do, go into a store and try them on before you buy. They are big. I'd feel less conspicuous wearing my goggles.
I got the racing jackets instead. I only ever have the trail lens in for driving. I got the photo chromatic ones for riding as I'm rarely in bright light for long.

NB seems they aren't making the racing jacket anymore
