Hail Mr Bush!
After the mid-week update AB is back at the top
Ok the season hasn't really kicked off yet but it's a good sign of things to come eh, possibly a tight 3+ way battle for top slot - until onbike comes along and creams everyone anyway...

Had a few hours spare so decided to go up Dyers from both directions. Bit of a ight Sou' Wester (around 3m/s) but as I was going both ways I thought it would all even itself out. Pretty sheltered from the Sou Westers going up Dyers from Govs anyway.

Gave it a good go and got to the top in 14min18

Started pissing down by Colombo so didn't hang around and started back up. Legs were definately feeling the effects from the other side, so was really feeling the steep bits in the legs :D . So only made it up to the cup in 6mins, and the SOT in 9min flat. Headwind was noticeable but not too bad on the flats, and I was hanging around 22 to 24kph for most of the way up which isn't too flash, but as fast as I could go.

So 18min48 on that side

Funny thing was after probably picking up a bit of grit in the brake pads on the way to Govs heard my back pad rubbing on the bloody rim (just in one spot though) as I climbed up past "She cafe"! :hmmm: Due to me tightened my brakes up a bit much before leaving, and my back wheel being slightly out of true... so looks like another trip to the bike shop

Jeez I'm slow after SOT, I can get there in about 9 minutes ten at the moment. But my whole trip takes about twenty and a half minutes.

That's obviously where I need to improve, especially if you had a headwind.

Most people seem to run a faster split for the first section. For me personally a 20:30 run would have splits of approx. 9:50 to Takahe, 10:40 to Kiwi. You might be right, and are doing a hot first leg then suffering to get up to speed on the 'flat' section, however different strategies suit different people!
Ask Danose about this he has some interesting theories about this climb, along the lines of going soft to the Takahe then really gunning it for the best time, which is not natural for most people.

A further warning, the times being posted by riders like Al Bush / Ahad at the moment are being recorded at way under their normal power levels, these guys are just blowing the cobwebs off and in summer will be posting low 15min Dyers times

:D Ahad ride reports always an entertaining read, only surpassed by Millsy's Mt Pleasant experiences
OK so Ahad now takes the lead, by virtue of participation, with only one climb to go to complete the 8.

Good stuff Ahad

I will continue to avoid Mt P until someone invents a tire that doesn't explode whenever the word 'Pleasant' is uttered.

Am getting the Ridley finished on Monday so will be able to compare what 3 and a half months plus multiple crashes and surgery have done to my extreme climbing prowess :D . Will try and post up some times when I get out. My trek is like riding a bouncy castle.

Finally found a couple of hours to head back up the hills so 2 more for me...

Sumner-Evans 8:15
Gov-SOK 14:01

Was feeling okay to the Governors switchback but then lost it big time and grovelled to the top. Saying "shut up legs" didn't help :(

Yeah everyones a winner mfw! Was going to do Dyers from both directions, and then tackle Mt Pleasant all at once on my Sunday ride. But then with my level of fitness thought that would be a really bad idea unless I wanted to post a Mt P time in the 30's :D

@ millsy: Double  You can talk! Shit can't even imagine trying to get back on the bike after what you've been through. Just ride a bit Conservative on the downs eh! Good on you for not letting it stop you getting back on the bike etc. Inspiring stuff!

Also Mr Bush. Shit you've hardly been riding your bike, got that elbow injury. Had bronchitis and a week later you're back up there ahead of me in the averages etc. And I'm a good 10kgs lighter etc with no injuries  Although I have been "packing on the pounds" and am now a whooping 72kgs btw, which has got to put me at a real disadvantage! :paranoid:

Disclamer: If I come across as a bit sentimental its just the high strength beers talking

Shit thats a quick time up Evans this early in the season! :o

I took it sensible up Govs to SOK and just tried to keep it at 12kph the whole way up. Sometimes a bit slower, occasionally a bit faster. Didn't make it any easier though especially by the to... Was thinking "shit can't imagine trying to not go under 15kph when fully fit!"

Was 7minutes flat to the switchback btw...

Okay I don't really know what to think about this but I did sumner to summit road tonight. The time I got was 8.23. That sounds too quick compared to what else I can achieve.
You time from where h something ave intersects with evans pass road don't you? Then stop where evans pass road intersects with summit road?
Maybe there was a tail wind.

Cheers, I felt pretty good up there. I do like that climb. Actually, I like most climbs, all climbs in fact, but you know what I mean. I do like short sharp sprint climbs. It helps not having many kg to lug up the hills. You must really be struggling with those 72 post winter kg Ahad :sly: :p

I was unsensible and did it in 6:32 yesterday. I knew that was okay for this time of the season but couldn't hold that pace. Once we get some more warmth (climbing in a beanie and 4 layers doesn't really appeal to me!) I'll be getting some more hills in my legs and be knocking out betterer times

Bastard 18:01 - actually I could not find the top cattlestop (probably because my brain had exploded) so I stopped my clock at the Gibraltar car park after 4.87km. Probably only 200m further than intended (?)

I think the carpark is about 400m after the cattlestop. If you end up getting a view towards the mountains you've gone too far. There are two cattlestops near the top of the climb and the one you stop at is he second of these just as the road goes through a gap and pops out to the West. From memory, this is at the Ahuriri Reserve where the Crater Rim walking track begins.
