Holy hell, was surprised at all the frost/ice still over the Summit rd in the shady spots today. Even at 3pm! Biggest frost in 3yrs apparently. Was glad I was going up the Bastard, and not down, like a few I saw heading that way after the top.

Just managed to scrape in under 19mins with a 18:58 on the Bastard.

Headed around to Sumner via Dyers and took 3secs off last weeks time up to Evans so a 9:40  then headed straight onto Evans to Broadleaf without a rest(bad idea :D ) so only managed 15:45

I bonked on the flat yesterday. :D Hills are therefore completely out of the question!!

I haven't been this unfit since 1999 when I ate all the pies :p

Well I just got back from a weekend away and there's been a few ice dodgers out there in the hills cutting some times :o with the return of Rik, tony_11 and markie5. Ahad has also been out again accumulating them nicely and is now tallying 5/8 - at this rate I'm rapidly running out of time to ever get to the top of the board again :hmmm:
Finally, we now have times for all the climbs so the dummy times are all gone ;)

Well being away this weekend meant I didn't any biking in, however I did score a dusty, unloved mag trainer off my brother-in-law, so as soon as I'd unpacked and got the kids into bed I strapped my beloved onto the machine and gave her a spin. It was good to get some high intensity work in again (read sweat-fest and dizziness :satan: ) as I've had a few weeks of running training where I can't push myself as my legs are still adapting.

Since it's my first time with one of these devices I have some questions:
=} How tight do you clamp it on? Don't want to go over-tight when one side is gripping on the plastic skewer nut...
=} Changing resistance was an awkward dismounting affair, is the idea to put it on one setting and use the bike gears to change effort? I was wondering if the resistance is linear with 'road speed'?
=} Any recommended interval sessions for these machines?
=} How do you ride hills on these things

My trainer came with a replacement skewer with round metal nuts that fit nicely into the clamp of the trainer.

There are a few workouts here: http://www.chapelhill.homeip.net/Cycling/Windtrainer/ Includes a webapp with timer to walk you through the session either on a pc or a web enabled phone.

Mine too. Came with a heavy duty stainless steel skewer that I just leave on all the time. It is really heavy though and I'm sure that was the reason I wasn't quite able to take Ahad on the overall placings :paranoid:

mfw, I have no idea about the correct answer for your other questions. I just ride. And sweat. And get bored with not actually going anywhere or finding any hills. And wish I never thought of the idea of getting on the trainer. I find an hour on the trainer really hard - much harder than doing short bays at pace.

1) I tighten mine so it only just doesn't slip once tyre and roller are warmed up. At this point the slip makes a good indicator of non-smooth pedaling
2) Non-cheap trainers have a remote resitance adjuster. So yes you use you gears.
3) What pb said
4) Hills easy max resistance, 54-12 visit http://gmaps-samples.googlecode.com/svn ... tions.html, type in Le Bourg-d'Oisans,France to Alpe-d'Huez, Huez, France. Go!

To get this thread back on track.

Would anyone like to give any of these climbs an ASO category rating. I'd do it myself but I don't know how the categorisations work, I just know they are really complicated to work out. Maybe we could have a polka dot jersey comp

And you thought it was just an accident an extremely heavy stainless steel skewer came with your trainer?! :sly:

An hour?! 30minutes and I feel like destroying the thing with a hammer

Roll up, roll up folks! The average Dyers - Kiwi time is currently 21 minutes 12 seconds - get yourself up there and posting as it's never going to be easier to get a better than average time

OK, todays updates from markie5 and Rik are up.
And welcome back to returnees: murphyflair, Spyder (whose blown his cobwebs out (sic)), and the comeback kid Al_Bushman.
Now, where's millsy?, and it's about time rochie popped his head up too...

Dunno when I'll be joining the comeback kids, current status: broken bike, broken body, pile of insurance claim stuff to get through :(
