Pinnacles Track- Which Start Point & Any Experience With Kid

Postby Royston on Sun 29/Nov/09 8:45pm

I'm planning this little jaunt and looking at the map was wondering whether to do it from the end of kauaeranga valley road or the end rangihau road. I'll be doing it with my kids 9+6 who are 'good walkers' but this will be the most ambitious hike so far for the six year old. advice aand experience welcome, Ta!

cant remember where i started from but, the actual walk should be fine for the kids except there are a few river crossings on slippery rocks, also there is a rope bridge. the only part i would seriously doubt a 6 yr old would make is the last 30mins when you actually climb the pinnicle as it is very steep and you need to do some rockclimbing to make it

kaueranga rd is far faster, the rangihau rd tra a lot rougher, doc have put steps and staple ladders all the way from the hut up to the top of the pinnacles now

Great tramp. A group of us did it recently, mostly fairly inexperienced. The last climb up to the pinnacles is on ladders and such. There were some young children up at the hut when we stayed up there.
