Photos Of A Ust Burp

Postby rjackson on Wed 4/Mar/09 9:12am

I have just got back from a sweet weekend riding at Queenstown. While taking a few photos, my mate crashed off a jump in the slippery conditions (always good when you have the camera out!).

So what I caught on camera was a UST burp, the tyre fully folded upside down, stans spewed out then rebeaded itself as if nothing had happened.

So for anyone who is interested on what a burp looks like, here are some pics.

It'd be interesting to see what the tyres are and the tyre pressure.

2.35 Nevegals on Mavic 819 rims, think the pressure was about 30psi but not sure on that?

UST Nevegals or Non-UST with Jizz?

He'd be better with a wider rim running 2.35's. I've had similar experiences running wide tyres on narrow rims - upgraded after too many trips over the handlebars. Not much fun when that front rim suddenly digs in!

Non UST with Jizz

The tires are on the upper limit for the rims but its a xc bike,... most of the time.

I think the crash was well underway by the time the tire burped but the rim digging in is never going to help either.

Apart from the rim filling up with dirt, it came out fine, still true and barely a scratch on it, good old Mavic rims aye!
The knees, elbows and helmet were not quite so fortunate!

Glad to hear you weren't too badly hurt :)

It never fails to amaze me how strong rims can be, the stresses they get subjected to and they survive

it would probably be due to spokes being steel and under substantial amounts of tension.

Do we still have pic of the day?
