If you want to check out more action from the day, please go visit Mike Newell's site - he did an awesome job lugging all the camera equipment around those hills in that hot weather. Mike I salute you!! http://www.officialphotographer.co.nz/Events

To all of those people who helped out - a big thanks and if I forget someone, please don't be offended....Blair, Toby, Birdie, Grobbie, Nadia, Leigh, Andrew, Mirian, Trudi, Kaila, Wayne, mum and dad...THANKS

To Rebekah & Craig and all of their dedicated team - you guys ROCK.....if people only knew how much work goes into organising an event, before and after! WOW...thank you just doesn't seem to be enough.

Cheers to Tama for coming out and posting his awesome pics - maybe next year we can convert you to a s/s to get a feel for the action?

Speaking of which - I do apologise to all of those people who were "exposed" to Aaron's bare bottom. Next year I promise he'll wear more (or less for the right money??)

And finally to our South Island Singlespeed champs for 2009 - great riding guys! Watch out Rotorua....looks like the South Island might be the one's representing NZ at the World's this year...

Men's winner - Brendan Sharratt; 2nd Chris Burr; 3rd Carl Fischer
Women's winner - Brenda Clapp; 2nd Karen Collins; 3rd Mel Blomfield.
Our star junior rider - dressed up as Little Red Riding Hood - Logan Horn.

Watch this space for details of the 2010 South Island Singlespeed Champs!!

cheers - Robyn & Aaron, Club Grind & Grind Bikes

Here are some photos from the 2009 South Island Singlespeed Champs, held at Living Springs, Christchurch on the 28th of March.

Brendan Sharratt won the men's race while wearing pink pyjamas and Bob (Brenda) Clapp won the women's race - dressed like an XC racer.

Great event!

Fantastic effort SISC (or should that be SICK!).
Video of Brendan sculling an ale is now up on http://www.nzsinglespeeds.com
Looked like a great day - we are really looking forward to having the Southerners including Brendan and Brenda at Pig & Whistle NZ Champs in a few weeks in Rotovegas.
Big weekend planned...
PS - thought Brenda's costume was very clever...

I don't need converting - I've already got a sweet singlespeed :)

I'm just sensible enough to pre-ride the course to assess how much pain it would of caused me to attempt to race it :p

I was hoping a participant would answer your question, but since they haven't... Yes to hilly but if they were geared appropriately I didn't see anyone complaining. A few people did this after they had already raced a few laps as part of the cross country event. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.
Maybe those who have done other singlespeed events could provide a comparison...

I bet you that they didnt get the deposit back on the gorilla suit. Imagine the interior after a lap or so. Phew!

Looks like fun: I would have liked to attend but had another commitment.

His work interwebby apparently classifies Vorb as "pornography"

If Oli does it in a gorilla suit filled with custard next year I'll give him a hundie :)

Anyone else want to throw some money in. :eh:

We'd chuck in a hundie too for sure if he does the custard thing!! Or maybe we should save custard for some sort of shortcut challenge.....hmmmm
