i did end up riding it on that Fri 27th Feb, was MINT. ended up going up Dun Mt track cos some guy i met coming down Fringed hill said the logging truck guys told him to gtfo the road...

pedal fucked out half way up, so rode with one half of my right pedal unclippable... still managed to enjoy it tho. came back down gravel, then headed up over Tantragee and down codgers... minty... codgers was boring im afraid.

Ok, don't know how well this is going to work but thought I might share some technology with anyone interested (this is my latest toy for riding :) )
This is the gps plot for our ride over Peaking Ridge on Saturday morning.
Track was great - awesome grip up there and looks like it is getting well ridden - it is packing down quite nicely!

It was dry enough in fact for me to finally get the monkey off my back and ride the first big log ride - in fact, I managed to string them all together this time so that was great!

Anyways, you should be able to view this file in Google Earth (Install it if you don't already have it) and it will show you the Peaking Ridge track - you can even play it if you have the latest version.

I have also attached a picture of the elevation for Peaking Ridge - just so that people know what they are up for :)

Cheers, Kelvin

Last I heard was the Black Diamond Ridge was reasonably overgrown as not many people are riding it anymore - they tend to ride up 629 hill and then link across. Having said that, there is some talk of a clearing day across the top - just have to confirm we are allowed in.

Peaking ridge is riding ok, Black Diamond and Sunshine ridge probably need clearing.

Cheers,

i'm up here and definitely plan on riding it within the week. will let you know how i get on. so... 629 rather than Black Diamond?
also, what is the status of Fringe Hill road during the week? is it closed for loggers etc?

if you ride up Bob Taylor road, and right to top, as if going to 629. just a few metres to the left of 626 trail entrance is the track in from the alternative end of Sunrise ridge. About 20minutes from there into top of Peaking Ridge. Its riding well.
I could be talked into it during the week.
far as i know fringe hill is open for riding.
hira forest has been shut this week (fire risk) not sure if todays drizzle will lift the closure.

I am not sure if the boys ahve got in and cleared all the tree's off 629, but if you are looking for a fun ride, this has to be right up there! I have only ridden it once with the guys that dug it in but was buzzing at the end!!! I know it took a bit of a hit this year with wind damage, but this might be all cleared up by now too.

Enjoy!

Hey, 629 has been cleared and is ridable. The storm damage required a new bit of track to be cut in one section and that hasn't been fully benched in yet, and a couple of corners that were damaged still need a bit of work to improve flow but the track is currently 100% ridable assuming you've got the skills. It's still steep, tight and scary :)

Definitely access peaking via the 629 climb and then up lower sunshine. The access in from black diamond is mostly ridable but has quite a few trees down which really messes with the flow of upper sunshine ridge and is generally a pita.

The nats DH track off fringe is well worth a look as well, if you're into that kind of thing.
