North Face Switchback #1 Has Been Bermed !

Postby Robbie on Sun 14th Mar 5:16pm

Today a small but slightly possessed team of Matt, Jono Don and Rob did some tinkering with our sensational new track, our first step in the North Face Perfection Process :)

Don set off down the hill to clean up the trail- widen it here and there, remove the odd thing and flatten other things. He also adjusted Switchback 3, which is quite tricky!

Matt Jono and Rob worked on the start of the trail and the run into Switchback #1.
The entry is much better but could do with more adjustments, but the corner itself is now pretty awesome! This makes the exit a lot less tricky, and some tinkering was also done on Switchback 2, which is now much better.

It was great to once again see lot of people riding the track with novices, expert riders, and quite a few women as well. :D This track is designed to be fun, although you will be very busy!

Matt set off to test the corners which seemed fair, as he was the main architect.
Well that and he had the only bike.

Here is a great picture of the berm. Not such a great picture of Matt riding it. Timing it seems, can be everything:

The corner now is pretty solid, and should pack down nicely with use and some rain..

Some adjustments were seen to be needed!

But with some tinkering it was a thing of beauty:

A happy exit :-)

Next week we will be assembling on Saturday, and we now have a much shorter to do list for this area:
-A grade reversal for drainage before Switchback 1
-Neaten up the trail to Switchback 2
-Reduce the roller into Switchback 2, and create a larger exit berm ;)
-Swing the trial a little further around a young Cabbage tree

Then we can wander down through the Manukas and see what is next!
We will eventually get to Switchbacks 3 and 4, both of which could do with more swoopyness.

Next up is the great Tuesday evening event which always has a great fun social atmosphere- way down the bottom just above Allington Rd. That runs from 5 until dark, with Pizza and Coke at 7. If you would like to learn more about this one, please go http://makarapeak.org/Default.aspx?pageId=574086

Cheers

Cheers GoodVibes !!
It is a very good start to our North Face Perfection Process

There are 14 switchbacks on this trail: one or two need lots of work, some very little.
And no doubt we can find a lot of small details to improve the whole thing.

Next weekend we will be there on Saturday, attacking the second switchback and beyond, please PM me if you would like any info etc

If we are determined enough we can make the entire trail huge fun to ride rain or shine, and be able to look back and have a beer.

or just ride the thing

Thanks for posting the pics rob. So rarely get to see yourself ride (and nearly bite it!). Awesome day of track-building!
