North Auckland Rail Corridor

Postby trailtroll on Tue 4/Jan/11 11:29am

This year there are submissions for the future of this corridor, from Auckland to Morewa.
Is there anyone out there who thinks this would make an ideal cycleway, then contact me.
Cheers.

I think it would make a great cycleway. Is there talk of decommissioning the line? It's being used and I tought they were thinking of building a link to Marsden Point

I know Kawakawa – having used and photographed the Hundertwasser toilets and ridden through the middle of the road in the steam train a few times :D
I’ve still got the coin that the train ran over.
LTSA made the train stop a few years ago :( Let’s hope not forever.

Have done a bit of reading, in the US etc, they use the additional areas of land beside the railways that have been set aside for rail development but will never be used (i.e. never double tracked lines etc) for adding rail trails. This might be an option even if the railway stays open?
