Is It A Nog Or A Dwang?

Postby scatter on Wed 10/Jun/15 8:06am

So we were discussing house construction last night. Turns out that Italian doesn't have a word for stud (cos they don't tend to build in timber) let alone nogs/dwangs.

I've always known them as nogs. Him-with-whom-I-live insists they're dwangs. Apparently it's a North Island/South Island thing. What do you call them (and where are you from originally)?

Nog up norf, dwang down here. They only call it a nog up there coz they're closer to Pomgolia. Dwang is correct.

I was a tradesman in chch for a few years, it was always a dwang. Even from builders up north that came down for the rebuild work.

Dwang, and somewhere in the dark depths of the Manawatu originally.
