Stage 3: that's me. Misdiagnosis is a bitch.

Fortunately for you the doctors have already made a correct diagnosis and have you on the right track. Ignore them and you could be in the same boat as me.

Did mine 18 months ago, I still don't feel it has healed as well as it could have. The idiot doctors at Chch Hospital took the cast off after a couple of weeks with out doing another x-ray, I was non the wiser at the time. Go and see a hand specialist, your physio/dr should be able to give you a referral. Be patient!

I've done both sides on several occasions, usually with thumb or other breaks in the region to boot. Last time was 8 weeks in various casts.

It will slow you down for a few months as big hits will make you wince and go a bit pale, I'd always ease through that stage with some kind of neoprene wrap to adsorb shock and give support ill its back up to full strength.

I ride reasonably hard and I have no problems with either wrist on a long term basis

I did 'something' to mine last year - bout September. Cast and no riding for a couple of weeks, then heavily strapped while riding and in a brace most of the rest of the time for another couple, then weened off all that. Hurt like hell for a few weeks out of the cast but never stopped me from doing anything. Still get a bit of pain now, but given it never gets complete rest that's understandable.

It's not only the fracture itself but often there's a lot of soft tissue and impact related damage and that's what takes the time to heal. My radial head is usually really locked up and that's where my pain comes from - not the specific injury site. But on the bright side it doesn't stop me doing anything :)

I have broken both left/right wrist EG scaphoids as I use to race motocross. The blood only flow one way in they scaphoid bone and so times takes time to heal, my ones did not and I have had to have both of them bone grafted with bone from my hip and pinned. I was in cast for 12weeks the first and 16weeks for the second wrist.
The last option if it did not knit they would fuse the wrist. I would recommend you take the time to heal. :)

I broke my scaphoid a few years back. 9 months and 2 operations and many casts later it was sorted :o
They tried a K-wire to mend it. That didn't work. Then they did a bone graft from my hip and screwed the sucker together. Now its all good :)

I've broken the one in my rh a couple of times and can honestly say make sure you take the time to get it right.

The first time it was 6 weeks before it was diagnosed properly (having extensive physio for what the doc said was a sprain and bruising didn't help) and then they set it wrong and put me in a cast that was too loose. I do not recommend having a bone rebroken to have it set correctly - it's not fun.

The second time was a couple of years ago. Because of the clusterfuck the first time round it took ages to come right and now I have only limited mobility with my right hand.

stick with the cast for as long as it takes and then ease back into things.
