Is it common to achieve that apparently massive increase in performance for a rider fergie??

as you note after road riding but maybe also by different training , better resting, better nutrition betterer psychology??

Boardman's 4:11 was unexpected. After 2000m he was eating into Collinelli's lead and of note was that after 1000m the Italian was 2 sec up on Boardman.

This WR was unexpected, Bobridge said he was very nervous when Denis rode 4:13.4 and one would assume having cooked the start a few times and having little track time that he would have avoided a super fast start.

My couch based observation is a man in excellent condition, in a good frame of mind, having learned from his mistakes, having all his stars in alignment pulled out an amazing ride.

Well this is just sad...
