This is where Nancy will be going when complete. The yellow line, the red one is wishuwerehere which drops off Quarry Rd. Both of these are under-construction.

I'm currently in the UK but am planning to emigrate to NZ this coming September. Your post seem to talking about cutting out your own trails or are you part of a legit club?? DIY trails are pretty much frowned on over here but it does go on quite a bit. What about over there??

I ride a mix of trail centres and longer self planned XC runs.

I was wondering what trail centres are like over there and also what about your 'right to roam'. Do you get dirty looks from dog walkers and trampers if you dare to stray to close to any of 'their' trails!!! Lake district is a nightmare for that, shame as the riding is amazing!! I'll be starting off in Dunedin and eventually moving up to one of the suburbs near Christchurch. Do you know any good trail building/riding clubs in those areas??

Ta

No right to roam here. Not many recreational dog walkers or trampers either.
Land access is tricky to get but once there, the club usually gets a pretty free reign over the block.
There doesn't exist the bridleway, right of way or rupp's that youd find in the uk but there's still plenty to ride. Longer loops generally get chosen on gravel and forest roads to link up the good bits.

The new trail called Nancy will be ridable this week-end, it cuts off wishuwerehere, about half down way down on the right, it will be at this stage a grade 3-4. It hasn't reached its final length yet, but I think we should be able to ride the first k or so.
Refer previous photo, Nancy is the yellow trail, and I have got about a third of it's length done, and quite ridable.

Starting a new trail this week, maybe out there on Thurs, it comes off Saddle Rd, which comes off Quarry Rd, and is called Bone Garden, and runs down to Quarry and Mains Rd intersection at the 2nd bridge.
