New Stem Help

Postby Crashchan on Sat 25/Apr/09 5:38pm

Hi I have a small delmar I have set of Fox 36 van r to replace my Marzocchi 55 ata but the steer is quite short i have about 27mm sitting out of the top of my headset. The Raceface atlas stem I have has a 42m stack height. I do not I want to change my Chris king reducer headset, are there other stems I can replace my stem? What are your thoughts I do not want my bars to come off in my hands. :paranoid:

The stack height is 30mm. You will have plenty of steer tube.

I had the same issue when a mechanic cut my steerer to short ended up getting a "outland" stem ( only had 30mm avalible on steerer) and that was on my dh bike with no issues

for the price they gave them to me for i didn't really feel right , they would have if they hadn't found a stem i liked . ( gave me the forks at cost with free fitting brake adapter and stem -boxxers) so i was happy

Any who, most stems will be about 40mm. I would be looking at headset change to a flush one. I run a FSA orbit one I think, its 3 years since it was fitted. Even if you fit the flush one on top only.

Over winter im going to look at making some offset shock reducers to slacken the HA and drop the BB. They have done this over on MTBR and Jeff Strebber has said it will be ok on the vpp also. I will let you know how it works out.
