A New Reason To Stop Daylight Saving?

Postby Derryn Hinch on Sat 21/Jul/12 11:25pm

Just google the time in Paris to see when the tdf starts and found the following statement:

Daylight Saving Time (DST) in Morocco and Western Sahara will be interrupted during the Muslim month of Ramadan (July 20 to August 19, 2012 in the Gregorian calendar), clocks will be turned back to standard time. This interruption in the DST schedule is designed to shorten evenings, making it easier for Muslims to observe the Ramadan fast during hours of daylight.

wtf?

Makes sense. I worked with a Muslim guy and he was always really knackered during Ramadan on account of not eating food during the day.

I was suggesting that daylight savings does not change the length amount of daylight and so muslims will have to fast for the same amount of time no matter what the time is.

It must be hard to be a muslim in Norway during Ramadan.

Relative to current non DST it does, say the sun rises at 7am, and goes down at 7pm (using these numbers for example, no idea what it actually is up there), if they always get up at the same time 8am for instance, when it will always be light at the time, then switching back to non-DST will effectively make the sun go down at say 5pm, 2 hours less.

Where I am currently most muslims get up before dawn to eat breakfast. I suspect this holds for most of the world otherwise it is only 1 meal per day.
