New Mcdonalds Pricing In Australia

Good, Bad, Indifferent?

Personally I think they are welcome to charge what they like, the good side of it I guess is it might encourage a few people who would have had McDonalds to go get something slightly healthier from the supermarket.

The flip side of course is I wouldn't think there is much preferance for McDonalds over any other type of junk food, they probably aren't going to make much more money as people will just go down the road to BK.

indifferent. it is a competitive market with plenty of choice. Although brand loyalty and sheer saturation of stores will probably result in SFA drop off in sales numbers for them, i reckon.

Indifferent. No one is forcing people in poorer areas to go to McDonalds to eat. It's the supply and demand market in action!

Meh. Other fast food stores, supermarkets, local/state government and pretty much everybody else have put their prices up in the last year. They may also be anticipating increased labour costs from when Krudd drops his back to the 80's IR bill.

Gah, they can charge what they like. No different to the supermarkets here charging different depending on what suburb you are in.

The slackers may lose some weight from starving for a few days as they have blown their budget on big macs anyhoo.

Meh. I'm surprised they haven't done this sooner.

Different customers pay different prices for all sorts of things. For example, Australian consumers have often complained about the weekly pattern in their petrol prices - that is, peak on Thursdays, low on Tuesdays. But it is just supply and demand in action. People demand more petrol on Thursdays, in anticipation of the weekend. Demand goes up, so price goes up.

Indiferent.

I pay more for my groceries if I shop local, same principal. Supply/demand at work.

Indifferent.

I guess in reality they are just testing the theory that people are poor because they are stupid or lazy, so if they put up their prices in poor areas they will be too stupid to notice or too lazy to travel to get a cheaper price. Be interesting to see if this proves to be correct.

It will. It already does - more fast food in cheaper suburbs / ones with council flats in 'em. Newtown has two eh?
