Myra is a 22-year old New Zealand born Cook Islander and past New Zealand junior mountain bike champion. She will be the first person to represent the Cook Islands in mountain biking at a Commonwealth Games.
“To represent my Polynesian heritage at the Oceania championships and the Commonwealth Games is a great honour and extremely exciting”, said Moller.
“Thanks to the Cook Islands sport officials for the confidence they have in me to represent them well and to Cook Islanders everywhere for their support and encouragement. And thanks to my principal sponsors, Jamis Bicycles, and also to Ocean Design for my stunning Cook Islands cycling outfit”.
The design debuts exclusively on the 2006 UCI Mountain Bike & Trials Championships web site. The Oceania Championships will be run on the same courses to be used at the World Championships from August 22-27. Clicky for Design
“I am not entering these competitions just to make up the numbers. My plan for the last six months is to be competitive when I take my position on the start line. Everything has gone according to plan,” added Moller.
“We’re really delighted that Myra will ride for the Cook Islands for the first time in Rotorua before heading to the Commonwealth Games,” said 2006 Worlds Media Director, Graeme Simpson.
"She is a very talented rider and it’s great to have her representing one of the most beautiful places in the world. A lot of Cook Islanders live in New Zealand and it is a favourite Pacific holiday destination for a lot of Kiwis.
We’re looking forward to possibly seeing the Cooks flag fly over the Event Village in August.”
Myra Moller is a former NZ junior and under 23 mountain bike champion. As a junior, she dominated the gruelling Karapoti Classic several years in a row. In 2002, she competed on the pro-elite USA circuit, picking up a 2nd and 3rd placing. She later finished 18th in the World Junior MTB Championship in Austria. She is returning to competitive cycling after a two year break for study and work. Myra is the niece of Olympic marathon bronze medallist, Lorraine Moller.
