Jared was on Wednesday waiting for surgery in Burwood Hospital in Christchurch after crashing in a Marlborough Mountainbike Club downhill race at Strachan Peak north of Blenheim on Sunday. The 16-year-old Waimea College student was riding at 60kmh when he hit a rut and flew 20m over the handlebars, landing heavily on his head.

We're all crossing our fingers and thinking good thoughts for your recovery Jared.

Making A Difference
I've had a talk with his teacher and he suggested we get him DVDs + magazines. We thought that MTB DVDs and magazines wouldn't be the best right now.

So the aim is to get him lots of DVD and magazine vouchers from a major store so he can chose whatever entertainment he wants (I'm sure the Mafia can deliver)

Donate $5 to get Jared DVD and Book Vouchers

Bummer! Great news that Triple One Care were on the scene though. All the best for a speedy recovery, Jared.

I've just been on the phone to Waimea College to see if there's anything Vorb can do as a collective. The guy I need to talk to is teaching at the moment but once I find out I'll let you all know

Poor Jared, he gave me a ride to Blenheim for the national race there this year and I didn't even really know him, he's a real good guy. Best of luck man.

That sucks!
Things like this come out of the blue... and there's so little you can do to prevent it!

Two people from Chch have had bad back injuries recently... one of them was far luckier than the other... you just never know how it will turn out.

He lives in Nelson and he was just unlucky, I was at the race when it happened down the Blenhiem Nationals Track 2005. I think he fell off down the firebreak.
