More Prize Money Equality For Women In Huka Mtb Race

Postby Melissa_Theuriau on Thu 20/Nov/08 2:22pm

A first prize place of $1500 has been announced for the female winner of the Huka XL MTB race at this year’s Wattyl Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge.

The prize money was previously stated as $500, a figure largely related to entry numbers however Huka Race Director Mike Langley says that figure has been reviewed and raised to the same level as the first place prize for the men’s race. While the entry numbers for the men’s race are significantly greater, Mr Langley says the event acknowledges the efforts of all its riders, and as the women are riding the same race they deserve equal prize money. “The women cover the same distance, they’ve put the same amount of effort into their training and although prizes awarded must relate to the size of the field we are an equitable event and are happy to redress the original prize money allocation.â€

Except the winner wouldn't be a mother because any athlete doing that race wouldn't have time for kiddies and training.

So yeah shame you lose Jeremy.
