Endurance athletes from all over the country will embark on Whakatane this weekend for the 10th annual Whakatane Great Outdoors Monty’s Revenge multi-sport series.
Comprising a 12km run, a 23 km mountain bike and a 20km kayak leg, the course is renowned for passing through some of the Eastern Bay of Plenty’s most stunning scenery. Whakatane, a contender for New Zealand’s sunshine capital crown, has seen its fair share of rain lately but fine weather is forecast for the weekend which should see make for an amazing race.
Around 150 competitors have registered so far but race organiser Andrew Ross is expecting this number to swell dramatically with late entries.
“We have always seen a lot of late registrations in past years and we are expecting the same this year” says Mr Ross
“The course has reverted back to the original after bad weather forced a change last year, so it is certainly looking like a race befitting of a celebration of 10 years of Monty’s”
Registrations can be made online and late registrations can be made in person at the Whakatane Great Outdoors on Friday 18th June from 4pm – 7pm and again on the morning of the race between 7am and 8.30am
