I was just at Kaimai Cycles, and spoke to the owner about this (they build most of the tracks). He said a few people had mentioned this to him, but when he spoke to the dude at the Council, he said it was the first he'd heard.

Then again, I'm not sure quite how you could get this story confused...

That said, the article does quote the Mayor - so hopefully it's just a case of some people at the Matamata-Piako DC not being kept in the loop.

I'm guessing this will mean a stronger possibility to have more trails in the native part of the bush. Which would be awesome with all the rocks and less slippery clay of death.

well...called the council and spoke to a few people - none had any idea what I was on about and a few who didn't know where/what Te Miro was but that was to be expected. Thankfully someone is going to find out who is in charge of the operation and get them to get back to me. Sometime. So.... if you have any questions you want answered post them here and I will get onto it.

And the answer goes like this:

- The Waikato Times Article is misleading.
- Logging will cease at Te Miro in the near future
- A Development Draftplan will be started sometime in the next few months by the development team.
- there are no definite plans in place to turn Te Miro into a recreational reserve.

If you wish to be consulted with regards to these plans then phone the council on 0800 746 467. I spoke to Jenny who has something to do with the community facilities but I have a feeling that it's not her department - she was just being extremely helpful.
