Hi guys,

I'm going to be releasing plants from this years growth around Varleys and Zac's tomorrow night. Last week we had only 3 people help out so if you're keen to do a small thing for Makara Peak, please stop by and give a hand. Weather is looking good, and I'll provide a luke warm drink and some biscuits for anyone who lends a hand.... even if it's 10 minutes. Details are:

Meet at either: Main Carpark @ 4:30pm or Summit @ 5pm
Alternatively: Stop by whilst riding down Zacs and Varleys
When: Wednesday 10th November 5pm to 7:30pm

Tools and gloves provided.

Would be great if we could hit more than 3 people this week! No pressure

Damn - arrived to late for the bikkies. But found a few seedlings hidden in one of the gullies, so was still worthwhile.

Thanks to Jo and it seems Simon. Jo and I worked our way from the top of Varley's towards the summit liberating trees from grass, gorse and barberry while Simon went somewhere else. Jo also helped finish off the Macaroons to save me carrying them home.

I was robbed!!!!
I started at the bottom of Zac's and worked my way down (could see you'd been busy around Zac's). The lack of refined sugar soon became crippling, so 30 mins was enough. BTW, I took away a few plant shelters where they seemed to be stunting the seedling growth (seemed to be the case with many of the rata). Fingers crossed the rabbits stick to all the fresh spring grass available now.

I thought of you guys this evening: the Stickbug and I were doing our own plant releasing program at the bottom of Lower leaping Lizard. We cleared about 250m of track from where LLL meets Possum, to somewhere above the stream - nothing releases grass and barberry as fast as a whirling piece of nylon line!

WEDNESDAY 17th NOVEMBER - ALONG UPPER LEAPING LIZARD AND NIKAU

A quick reminder to one and all, we have our final releasing party tomorrow evening (Wednesday, after 5pm). This one is for the seedlings we planted near the top Nikau. They are doing awesome (but so are the weeds). I'll be starting on the stuff 150m up from the bottom of Upper Leaping Lizard and then working downhill to about 300m down from the top of Nikau. Might even grab a Griffins Sampler pack for this one : )

If the weather is rubbish, we'll postpone, but the forecast is looking very nice:

Thanks to Karl for turning up - I couldn't have eaten all the Sultana Pasties by myself. We dealt with the weeding fairly easily and had time to create some light wells for several rata, totara, kamahi and rimu saplings from previous years. Checked stoat traps and filled possum bait stations too!

Karl's thinking of running one more session - details to be posted shortly.
