The sun came out, and so too did 111 riders. They were treated to tracks in mostly awesome
condition – dry and dusty was the most common “complaint”. The majority of “teams” were solos,
having one last hit out before Karapoti, though there was a great response to the “family-friendly”
billing, and it was awesome to see so many kids out riding.

The Holmes family team took out the major spot prize, and was the only team to feature three
generations: Granddad Tony, Mum Anke and Dad Rob, and 5-year-old Finn. Nico (3 years) was
team manager.

The event was well supported by local businesses. Thanks very much to bike shops Bike Barn,
Burkes Cycles, Capital Cycles, Dirt Merchants, Giant Wellington, Johnsonville Cycles, Mud
Cycles, On Yer Bike, Revolution Bicycles, and Roadworks for their generous sponsorship. Thanks
too to Floe Riding Apparel and Karapoti Classic for the pre-entry prizes, and MTB Skills Clinics for
their donation. Also, the Kennett Brothers produced the entry forms and donated spot prizes.
Finally, thanks to Mandy Campbell at recycled.co.nz for dropping of some prizes at the last minute.
Volunteers – impossible to thank individually, but they know who they are - put in a massive effort
in the months leading up to the event to have the race course in great shape. MPS also used WCC
funds to engage contractors to the same effect.

A small crew of volunteers assisted bring the event to you. The course check and marking was
done by Jono, Karl, Sarah and Simon. Registration by Tony, Karl and Ross. Course marshalls were
Sarah, Ed, Dave, Karl, Dani, Jono, Sarah, and Khulan. The timekeepers were Jolene, Suze and
Ross. Roy sent Kaffee Eis our way. Thanks to Steven Peters and WCC for the rego table and
facilities, and extra special thanks to PNP Cycling Club for the race numbers, PA and course
markings. Thanks to Karl and Shane for taking photos on courses (see facebook for links to those
albums).

Results follow. Please advise of any corrections (by email, to siftyjohn at gmail dot com), including
team member names. The divisions are Men, Women, Mixed, Family and Vet (Men, if no other
letter). Pax is how many in the team. If you want the spreadsheet to play with, feel free to email
for that too...!

Congratulations to everyone for creating such a great vibe. It was very cool to see elite racers and
family teams happily coexisting. The event raised almost $3000 for the park, and this will be spent
in the coming months on additional maintenance to see us through to winter.
Thanks for your contribution to the park.

See you next year!

It's back! The 2015 Creek to Peak Relay will be on Sunday the 6th of December. Same relaxed atmosphere. Same good cause (100% of entrys go to fund the park). Same high chance of a spot prize. But...a totally new course, which includes a rare opportunity to ride the reverse-direction up Lazy Fern, Smokin and JFK, and down Koru...and the awesome new descent of Peak Flow. This is a really fun course. You can enter in teams of up to 4 people, but you might want to enter solo and the whole course twice by yourself. Totally attitude dependent. Whichever way you go, there will be a BBQ and plenty of friendly company waiting at the finish. For a feel of the event vibe, have a look at the comments in this thread.

To enter (noting that early entries go in the draw to win a copy of Classic NZ Cycle Trails - 3rd edition) head to http://creektopeak.eventzilla.net/web/event?eventid=2138848030

Sounds cool! Out of interest, is there any place for the Tour de Peak to return one day? That was an awesome event :D

Yeah, maybe. One of the issues was the sheer number of tracks, and the high ratio of DH to uphill tracks leading to lots of riding up 4WD tracks to the summit. When the easy up climb is built, that'll make things a bit more interesting.
Could do an enduro category, too, where you were only timed for the DHs, but had to do every descent in the park. What could possibly go wrong?
