So I got dive bombed 3 or 4 times by a magpie on Ironhorse yesterday. It was kinda scary, ok make that really scary. I mentioned it to another rider I saw on my way back and he said one of his mates had 5 of the buggers going for him last week.
Anybody else had near death experiences with magpies out there? I've also seen them smashing hawks for going near their nests.
If enough people have had issues do you think Bikeparks would do something about it?

Cool, are they fast? Can they do the double at the end?

I havent ridden there for a while, but its probably the same pair nesting at the end of Iron Horse as when we originally built the trail (about 6 years ago???).

Anyway, I just used to grab a big stick before getting to the end and ride past them waving the stick in the air as they sat on a branch waiting to bomb me. The stick seemed to work. Once you were 50m past them they no longer cared. Good to see they are still out there!

I considered the stick option but was worried it may provoke them to gang bang me and then I'd be really screwed

Get a 'Magpie in distress' CD and play it loud they'll go nuts and hide.

i can vouch for those fuckers, had one on track in front of me and it fully tried to staunch me out, didn't move till i was like 1m away. tough little banditos.
