MACPAC Autumn Challenge Women's 6-hour adventure race

The MACPAC Autumn Challenge caters for both beginner and experienced participants.

* The event gives women a chance to try adventure racing in a challenging but still achievable environment.
* The event cater for teams of 3 women. The core disciplines are trail walking, non-technical mountain biking and white water rafting.
* For seasoned adventure racing women they can expect a fast exciting 6-hour race.
* Note: the winning time is aimed at 6-hours, the final teams can take up to 12-hours. Most teams take between 8-10 hours.
* It's a challenge ... and it's a lot of FUN!

The 6-hour event will start at 8am at a location announced at event breifing on April 24th at Mountain Valley. Teams will have to navigate their way through a series of checkpoints in numerical order by means of the core disciplines, using a map and a compass. In the 6-hour event the fastest team can expect to spend approximately 2 hours walking, 2 hours biking, 1 hour rafting plus transition times changing between core disciplines.

The hiking is mainly on formed forest roads, farm tracks or open land that is good travel. Navigation skills will be needed. There will also be some orienteering.

Mountain Biking
We get a lot of people contacting us with concerns about the mountain biking and this is what we say. "the mountain biking is aimed at beginner / intermediate riders. We design the biking to be as non technical (easy) as possible. There may be some sections that challenge participants but they are not dangerous and walking your bike for a section is an option". The Mohaka region is steep, prepare for some uphill climbs!

The rafting is on board commercial rafts with trained guides. While rafting expereince is not required we do suggest you do a rafting trip prior to the event. There will be a rafting safety breifing at registration on the 25th also. Raft, paddle and bouyancy aid are provided. You need a wetsuit and cycle helmet for rafting. Wetsuits can be hired for $30.00

Located just off the Napier/Taupo highway, Mountain Valley is a unique wilderness destination beside the Mohaka River, within easy reach of Taupo and Napier.
As an adventure lodge it offers a range of accommodation options, great home cooked Kiwi food in the bar & restaurant.
Mountain Valley is 45 minutes drive from Napier and 1.10hr from Taupo.
