Looking For Some Steel Frame/bike-age

Postby Scotty on Fri 11/Mar/16 7:06am

Anything 17-19 inch
26 or 29er

Frame or complete bike. Singlespeed or geared, not too stressed.

Something like an old Raleigh XXIX, Avanti KISS, Haro Mary or GT peace would be perfect.

Ta. :)

It's one of the early ones, maybe 2003-2004. currently set up as 1x9, but has mostly been a single speed, and mostly used to ride to the pub.

I don't know if I have any pics of it, but I can take some tonight.

Don't know about $$, hadn't really thought about it. It's always been "I haven't ridden that in ages, I should sell it, yeah one day, where did I put my beer". Depends what gear you want on it, make me an offer I can't refuse.

To assist with the thread hijacking ( :D ) I had a BFe in 2008/9, it was great - did a ~2:50 Karapoti on it with a dropper post and coil pikes at 140, so pretty capable ad versatile.

That's awesome.

I remember when you bought that when 29 inch wheels and would never catch on.

Hijack away gents, I too love the steel.

I'm thinking I probably need something with rack mounts for putting on a kids seat and munting about, but I can also fang about at the odd race when I feel the urge.

Bfe sounds cool.

i went to the BFe from a Soul, and i just found the BFe tooooo dammmnned stiff... the Soul was forgiving and comfortable (and half a kilo lighter), but with 150mm forks, and riding hard (or muppet-like) they were too much for it and i put cracks in the head tube. So, on the BFe I rode the same, but ended up sore more often than not. It's what compelled me to get my first full suss (5.Spot) after over 20 years on steel hardtails (that were getting burlier and burlier)!

Yeah, at the time buying a complete 29er was unheard of, I built it with 700c touring rims on mtb hubs because 29" mtb rims weren't really a thing.
